What model is this?

Hello,

A few years ago I was at a gun store and shot a revolver, but I don't know what model it is. I emailed them some years later, and showed them the picture, but they were unsure, but that maybe it was a model 686. What do you experts here think? Please see the picture.

Im not an expert but I would say its a 4” model 586.

Is the difference between 586 och 686, that 586 has blued finish and 686 is in stainless steel?

It should be a 586 then I guess, if one can also use the exclusion method, because no 686 is blued finish.

If you open the cylinder, the model and variation will be stamped on the frame side where the extraction rod groove is, along with the serial number.

Thanks, good to know. Unfortunately, I can't do that, as I don't own the revolver, but only shot it at a gun shop in 2017.

Just an fyi there was a limited model 686 finished in what S&W called Midnight Black though I would agree with the others that the revolver shown is the 586. Here's what an early 586 I had looks like with the original grips:

Is it possibly either a 19 or 14? Did they come with full underlug?

I recall that S&W did release a few K-frames with the full underlug barrel, but I can't remember specifics. I want to say they were .38 specials or even in .32 H&R Mag, but won't swear to it. There weren't many and I only recall them from magazines.
