Greetings!

With original, factory magazines for the Model 39-2
getting more scarce and expensive with each
passing day, what other S&W factory single stack
9mm magazines could I buy to supplement the two
aging mags that came with my 37-year old gun?

Thanks in advance for your assistance! :)

I got the pro mag 8 rounders for mine because they sit flush. The newer mags hang out about a 1/4 inch. I think any mag for a full size Smith single stack will fit and work but will hang out of the grip frame. Despite there rep the pro mags have worked as well as the orginal factory mags in this gun fpr me. One did require a little fitting to drop free.

Thanks for the info re Pro Mags, Mike! I've previously heard
only negative "caveats" about them before your post. :(

Pro Mags

Not trying to advertise for Pro Mag but as previously stated, Factory mags for the 39-2 are becomming harder to come by, I purchased a new Pro Mag for one of my 39's. The company went out of their way to satisfy my order. I was very pleased with the product for about $30.00 and a life time warrenty.

I got a S&W mag with the steel follower for $27.50 at the San Antonio gun show. It works just find, and did'nt have much junk in it when I took it apart for cleaning.

I found a Pro Mag 8-rounder in a gun show yesterday. :)

Drops free, loads just fine...except that it has a longer
base plate that kinda "crowds" in my fingers (especially
cramping the little finger) inward.

Are all Pro Mags like this and has it ever bothered folks
with bigger hands/fat fingers? If so, what did you do:
bend down the base so it looks like one of those old
Beretta compact gun mags? Or has anyone ever filed
off the base to the size/length of a factory 39-2 mag?

Thanks for any info/assistance on this matter! :)

My pro mags are like that the base plate is too long on the front. Nothing a grinder a few files and some cold blue took care of.

Hello all, the factory magazines for the 909/952 series of guns fit in the 39 series without any modifications required or other issues. They just work. They add one round and protrude slightly from the 39-2 magwell. The 952/909 magazines are still available from S&W, Midway USA and maybe other sources.

I have a Pro-Mag for the model 39.

Function is fine.

I see no reason why you can't grind the base plate to whatever shape you like. The spot-welds on the base plate are well aft of any area you will grind.

Currently-manufactured S&W mags for all the "39 series" single-stack 9mm fits like this on the 39-2.
