What price 9mm would motivate you to buy a case

I am quite short on 9mm ammo and waiting for prices to come down a bit more.

What would the price have to be ($/50 rounds) to motivate you to buy a case of 9mm brass cases target rounds.

Keep an eye on Norma ammo website. Over the holidays, they had 9mm new brass for $14.99 with free shipping for $150 or more.

I looked and they are $16.99.

I have collected enough components to load maybe 10k rounds so any factory ammo would have to be pretty cheap. If I saw 1k rounds of brass cased for $0.25/rd I would consider it.

Dollar Cost Averaging

I don't ever really run low on certain cartridges because I recognize low prices and buy a lot. Two years ago 9mm 115grn fmj range ammo was available by the case delivered for $0.14 per round. I bought a few shipments.

In the past year I have supplemented my stock by paying $0.42/rnd/case delivered; then $0.38 delivered, and most recently $0.35 per round (1000) delivered. Given what I had in stock, my average cost to shoot 9mm now is about $0.20/rnd.

My next buy point will be <$0.30/rnd, but just one case. At $0.20/rnd I'll start buying more regularly. I don't think it will go much lower any time soon.

I plan to start replacing what I have been shooting over the past two years when the price goes down to about $270/case delivered. And start stocking up again around $220 - $240. It is taking much longer than I thought it would for prices to come down.

Between inflation, copper being in short supply and increased demand we will likely never see $10/box 9mm again. A big part of the very low prices a few years ago was ammo manufacturers building new production capacity after the big price jump in the shortage 8 years ago only to see demand fall and end up with excess capacity. From what I have read they are running the plants they have 24/7 but are not investing in more capacity this time.

I ran a similar poll last May (What's the most you will pay for a case of 9mm?). It will be interesting to see how people have adjusted their expectations. The 12% that were waiting for prices of less than $9/50 round box are probably starting to realize that is never to happen.

On the other side about a third of the people that responded in July said they would spend $15 or more. So they are probably buying a lot of ammo now and the price will not come down until they have bought all they want or start thinking it will be cheaper if they wait.

ETA: I didn't buy a case but I did buy 600 rounds of Norma 9mm FMJ when it was $15/box delivered right after Thanksgiving. Above my price point but but like CB3 said, sometimes dollar cost averaging is not just for investing.

One thing (actually, MORE than one thing) I've learned over MANY years, I can wait until things meet MY expectations; OR live without them very easily.
I may not have a lot of time left, but..... I'LL WAIT for $10/box of 50 (including tax).

My choice isn't listed. It would have to be less than $5. I don't buy ANY factory ammo except rimfire.

99% of my 9mm shooting is reloads, so I'll just wait for deals, if any, to come down the pike. Have a stash of factory ammo, but rarely dip into it. Of course it never hurts to have more.

I jumped in for a case each time on the last two Norma deals. Last case I bought pre pandemic was $10 a box, but I think those days will be gone for a while. In the past I'd payed as much as $12 or $13 a box if I was buying locally. Another couple bucks a box over that didn't seem too bad. Also have been buying SP primers for $80 a thousand so really can't reload 9mm for too cheap anymore.

I keep a watch on ammoseek, and see the price coming down a bit on Tula and Wolf steel case, to 30-32 cents per round...which I choose not to use in my guns. If they hit that price point for new brass case ammo I will probably buy a case.

We've been in this situation for almost two years now, and with inflation rising, and driving up prices for everything, even if ammo suddenly becomes commonly available again, I doubt we'll see a return to the prices of yesteryear.

I'm not especially short on 9mm right now, but if I saw Federal, Winchester, or Remington at anything close to $20/box (of 50), I would scarf it up.

I have only found one factory 9mm round that is so extraordinary in my most troublesome pistol that I'm willing to pay for it. It was never cheap. Around $225 the last time I purchased, maybe three years ago. If I'd see it around $250, I'd probably order a case, and hope maybe it will continue to go down a bit. Otherwise, I'm much more interested in where primers level off. If it's going to be $60/M or more, my pistol shooting will permanently get scaled way back.

The last time I bought 9mm ammo I paid 7.99/box of 50. Believe it or not, that wasn't too long ago...... maybe two years or so. I saw the writing on the wall and now I make my own.

If I were not reloading I'd say anything under $14 bucks a box isn't too outrageous and probably worth getting some. No one has a crystal ball and so no one knows when we hit bottom. I guess the main factor would be just how much 9mm you have and what your inventory comfort level is. of course your financial situation will play into that as well.
