Take this with a grain of salt, but this is what Smith told me this morning about the Bodyguard. Call and see if they tell you the same thing.

According to the person I talked to, anything with a EAD is good to go. Anything with EAA, EAB, or EAC can still be problematic weather it has the ring around the laser or not. The new frame was strictly for the laser issue. The fix for the take down pin was a newly designed pin and spring.

Some of the EAB's have the fix, some don't. So how do you tell. He said look at the end of your box. In the upper right hand corner of the label, it say's "SMITH & WESSON". If it has been highlighted with a pink marker, then that gun has been gone through and has all the fix's. :) He also said that some of the problem's with the laser's are from guy's over oiling them, and killing the laser. Some, but not all.

That being said, I just went and put money down on one tonight. Sure enough, it had the pink marker on the box. But it is also a EAF. So I should be good. The laser was easy to work, and the trigger seemed fine. And trust me, I have been worried to death about the trigger's. When I got home I looked on gun broker. I was only able to find a few with a pic of the end of the box. I seen 2 EAE's. They had a yellow looking mark. I don't know if this is good or not. Seems like it would be. Maybe they ran out of pink marker's with all the BG's they're going through. I seen 1 EAF, and I could just barley see a little pink mark.

So everyone go look at your box and put your mind at ease,,,or get worried I guess,,,lol.

I think I'll do a poll and see how every one's box is marked. Please vote. Also reply with what serial # you have if it is highlighted.

Here's one with the yellow highlighting.

Hi,

Here's my EAB endflap...no highlight. The takedown lever is hard as heck to remove so I would say it's the new design. I have the circle around the button but, the buttons were a bit difficult to activate. I used the plastic covering from some 12ga. wire to reinforce the tit. Works great now.

EAH XXXX no Highlighting.

I did re-adjust the laser for windage so it was point of aim, point of impact at 20 yds understanding it is a point blank up close designed weapon.

BG 380 Box

My BG Serial # EAE37XX shows a spent shell date of 11-03-2010. The box has a black marker dot and yellow highlight over the Smith & Wesson logo. The mfg date 0307-if I read everything right that would be the 307th day of 2010. If my addition is correct, that is a manufacture date of November 3rd, same as the spent case date. So far, no problems with the gun after about 300+ rounds.

EAB....no highlight....10/21/2010.....100 rounds......fingers crossed!!!

EAF

EAF with no highlighting. Fifty six round so far, only observation is that the front sight is left of center from the factory and so are the two other EAF's I have seen.

BG380---EAE37XX

600 rounds now. No Failures to feed or eject, just a problem with light primer strikes not firing the round. I had about 8 failures to fire so far. I called Smith, a call tag is on the way, and hopefully they will put a firing pin in there that makes a much deeper dent on the primer. Other than that, I really like the gun.

I bought mine as a EAA. package is highlighted in Blue

It had problems. Was sent back
now is a EAB with a new frame. no rings on the frame cover
has about 1000+ rounds through it and no problems.

I have a EAA 95XX series with over 800 rounds through it with no problems..The Box does have a Pink Mark under the "Smith & Wesson" name..

EAE5585, I have a black dot (little circle dot made with what looks like magic marker) just above and to right of serial number on the label. No trouble so far. But no "high lighting".

EAL****

No highlighting except for the word "Bodyguard" and the logo on the left hand side of the slide. My take down pin pops right out.

EAPxxxx and only a small black dot after the serial number,,,,and no problems.

EANXXX and haven't looked at the box but have the gun with me. Only about 120 rounds through it but not one problem. Traded a LCP with ftf problems and could not be happier. Good gun in my opinion and I have a high level of confidence in it.
Be safe, Frank.

EAE6

EAE5585, I have a black dot (little circle dot made with what looks like magic marker) just above and to right of serial number on the label. No trouble so far. But no "high lighting".

i've got the same thing with my eae6xxx, only fired 25 rds without a hiccup and haven't been back to the range since to fire that one. Manufactored date on spent case is 11-10-2010 so idk if it's in the clear from light primer strikes.

What struck me as interesting was the part about some customers over oiling and killing the laser. I have often thought that the guys with the laser problems were probably using rem oil or break free clp on their bg's. Since the laser is not sealed, I'm quite certain that these products would have a detrimental efffect on the laser.

I am looking at a BG with # EAR xxx on it. Any ideas if this one is ok ? Thanks
