What sort of magazine did I get?

I have a 3914 coming and it only has one magazine so I figured that I had better get a few more. Someone on this forum said that mags for the 4040 would work and that made sense to me as I used Beretta 96 mags in my B 92 with no problem.

I found an ebay listing for "OEM S&W 4040 magazines." This is what I received. I don't think that it is either an S&W mag or made by S&W's OEM.

It says "M4040" on one side. There are no other markings on the mag body and nothing visible on the baseplate.

Any thoughts about this?

M4040 on black mags with red follower with stainless ball in follower are S&W OE for 4040PD the only Scandium framed pistol in the 3rd Generation line.

They are for 40SW, not 9mm. A while back there were significant quantities of these NOS in the $30 range as I recall.

There is a thread somewhere on this site that discusses the use of these mags in 3913/3914 pistols.

Personally I wouldn't trust anything but the correct factory 3913/3914 mag for anything but range use, but if you decide to change the follower to the 9mm follower, PM me as I could use the M4040 followers to replace 3 damaged M4040 followers.

Interesting. I would have thought that they would have had the S&W logo on the mag tube or the floorplate. The floorplate looks rather cheesy.

Something that I find interesting is they load up fine with .40 S&W but I can only get 6 9mm rounds in before everything is too tight.

4040PD mags in a 3913

I’ve tried the 4040 with the factory follower, with a 3913 follower and Promag with a 3913 follower. All combos fit and function for me in my 908/3913.

Something that I find interesting is they load up fine with .40 S&W but I can only get 6 9mm rounds in before everything is too tight.

No markings other than 4040 or M4040 on side. Easy to distinguish by red follower with stainless insert in follower.

If I understand correctly they should hold 8 9mm rounds or the designed 7 40SW rounds. Not sure why you would only get 6 9mm as they are slightly smaller.

Suggest you spend some time at range before you count on them for critical defense use.

And look at left side front of top of the follower for damage in the form of a small nick in the follower where empty mag follower hits the slide lock lever. If the nick is present they will sometimes not lock slide back on empty magazine in the 4040PD pistol.
