I know that NY does not have Reciprocity with any other state. Not sure what states allow NY permits. How is the weather out that way this evening? Wondering if my parent's in Gansevoort are getting nailed like I am !

Actually, I asked about a NY permit, because if he had one I'll bet some states (and I'll guess Michigan) will recognize it. We could tell him if he's good to go if he would "list his states".

Indiana will honor any concealed handgun license from any state, regardless of reciprocity agreements.

Oregon; Zip. We don't honor other states' CWP's, so none honor ours. Really stupid.

We can drive across the river and get a WA permit, or take an 8 hour class offered here for a Utah permit. The whole Utah deal eats up about $200, but the Utah permit opens up some other states to us Orygunslingers.

We just got about 10-12 yesterday with some freezing rain,it stinks.

If you all look carefully at this page from handgunlaw.us, you will notice that the following states honor ALL resident licenses, regardless of reciprocity: Arizona, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Utah.

Also, be aware that seven states do not accept non-resident licenses, even from states that they have reciprocity with: Colorado, Kansas, Michigan, Florida, South Carolina, West Virginia, and New Hampshire.

I do my best to avoid and thus not support states, businesses, etc that don't like my TN permit or my views. Thus, I tend to have little for the west coast or the n.e. area. Being a law abiding, honest and armed citizen, I will tell a business manager or owner that I will not support his business if he does not support my rights under the laws of TN. In this economy, now is the time to let those that post the no gun signs that we don't need their products or services and we will spend our money somewhere else.

Before packing.org went away it was widely advised there to get both the Florida and Utah permits if you wanted to maximize your carry options without spending a fortune. IIRC, doing so would give you 38 states that were legal to carry in. Is that still the case?

No. Never was true. FL and UT coverage is almost the same, duplicating each other.

For those in the western states, your home state and a Utah get you about all you can get by reciprocal recognition. After that, it is one state at a time.

For the Eastern states, many prefer FL. The coverage is about the same.

I keep posting where to get this information, but the question keeps getting asked again:

I am from and have a Utah permit, as of right now we show 17 states with formal reciprocity, and another 16 that "recognize" the Utah permit. So 34 states in total. Wyatt is correct though that many states now require proof of residency in whatever states they recognize.

Info on the Utah permit can be had here http://publicsafety.utah.gov/bci/concealedfirearms.html

The actual application is only $65.25 and the training is 4 hours not 8. There is a list of in and out of state instructors on that site. My class was $45 so the total was about $110 plus fingerprinting and photo.

I am a UT instructor.

To be specific, Colorado, Michigan, Florida, New Hampshire, and West Virginia only recognize UT permits if the holder is a resident of UT.
So 29 states honor a UT permit for a non-resident.

Getting a FL permit in addition to the UT does not help much, since it only adds FL itself for a total of 30. That's why I recommend your home state first, and then add either UT or FL. UT has the advantage in western states with WA and MN over FL. UT is also half the price of FL and renewal is only $10. One-time class is 4 hrs classroom, no firing range time. NRA learn to shoot courses are available if you want them (they satisfy FL training requirements).

As an aside, the UT policy of requiring out-of -state UT instructors to travel to UT to renew is going to drastically reduce the number of available instructors, and prices will go up. Better get it now than later.
