It's looking like I may have a couple of days off in Baltimore next week. Any suggestions on what to see/do would be appreciated. Also any thoughts on public transportation, as it's either that or shoe-leather.

Thanks!

Leave, as quickly as you can.

That's not the kind of recommendation I was looking for. Yes, Baltimore has it's problems, along with the state of MD. I have found, however, that in ANY city in the US I can find cool stuff to see, good food to eat, and nice people to visit with.

Keep the bashing to a minimum, please. ;)

Where you gonna be staying? There is Fort McHenry, if it is opened back up, you know, birthplace of the National Anthem. The inner harbor don't wonder too far away from it, last time I've been there has been quite awhile ago so I don't know if it has changed a lot. Edgar Allen Poe house, Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Museum if you are into trains, S.S. John W. Brown if your into WWll ships, Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum, Baltimore Civil War Museum, Flag House. There should be pamphlets where you are staying, you could probably get info from locals where you are staying or working.

Heck you could walk past where my GP's lived many years ago around the inner harbor and Locust Point.

Don't take a firearm with you MD isn't a gun friendly state for CCW that's why I moved years ago.

Inner Harbor & Aquarium is great - try to stay close to it!

Yup and the USS Constellation is in the inner harbor, mall and lots of nice shops and restaurants there. That whole area along Pratt St. is the entertainment area. Little Italy, good restaurants is near by. Plenty to keep you busy.

The USCGC Taney is also moored in Baltimore's Inner Harbor
the Taney is the last floating ship present at the Pearl Harbor Attack
(Though she was in Honolulu Harbor and not Pearl Harbor)

I'll echo what the others have said about the Inner Harbor. It's a great entertainment area. Fort McHenry is very interesting, although it's not in the Inner Harbor. It's also not walking distance from the Inner Harbor either.

Literally don't go to the far side of Ravens Stadium or Camden Yards. Not much going on at either during the week, anyway. There is a sports museum there, as I recall.

The National Aquarium is there, if you like that sort of thing.

The USS Constellation, and light ship, and I think a submarine are there. Here is a link to some stuff to do in the Inner Harbor.

Pretty good seafood there, which you probably know.

Once you are out of the Inner Harbor, it gets dicey pretty fast. High crime, high homicide rates.

Be careful, have fun.

I was born and raised in Baltimore...Ran away from home and joined the NAVY @ 19..... The best place to be in Baltimore is in the dead center of the city... NO MATTER WHICH DIRECTION YOU GO......YOU'RE LEAVING!!!!!!!!!

Agreed! Lots of restaurants and bars. The Aquarium is cool. A couple blocks away however you'll find a homeless camp, soup kitchens etc. Unless they've cleaned it up since I was there.

Walters museum is great.Harbor cruise if it's still running this time of year.Walk east of the Inner Harbor tourist area to Little Italy and Fells point.

Go to youtube and watch some old episodes of "The Wire" - a real guide to life in Baltimore. On a serious note, the Inner Harbor area and the street going uphill away from it (Charles St???) are pretty safe and well patrolled (gotta keep the touristas happy).

There are a good number of homeless people panhandling along Pratt Street. Just something of which to be aware.

Baltimore stole the Cleveland Browns and things haven't been the same since. If anyone knows a good quarterback lookin for a job, send him up here. Been to the inner harbor twice, what a cool place. We were there when it was warmer though. Larry

Whatever you do, do not skateboard in Baltimore.

Baltimore cops V.S. skateboarder - YouTube

The inner harbor is nice. That video reminded me of an incident years ago. A kid went zipping past on a skateboard. Chasing him, a cop then zipped past in a golf cart, siren blaring and a flashing blue light. The kid got away by going down a flight of stairs. We all cracked up laughing, it could have been a Bugs Bunny cartoon with Elmer Fudd. That earned the evil eye from the cop.

Thanks for the help, gentlemen. Looks like I'll be staying 4-5 miles from the Inner Harbor (got to have truck parking), but I'll find a way to get over there at least one day.
