What to do with extra ammo

Between not possessing a credit card and not being able to find affordable 22LR locally for the past year and a half -- having the ability to choose between ammo -- that's a enviable position to be in. A position that I have given up some time ago trying to remember.

I'm not sure there's anything like "extra ammo". During whatever shortage comes up next, you'll be glad you have it. I too bought what I really didn't want but, as the clerk at the LGS said, beggars can't be choosers. I'm happy I have a supply even if I don't like what I have.

Yeah...I see zero reason to ever get rid of ammo, unless it's down the barrel of a gun. I say keep it and shoot until your heart's content.

Well, I like most of the replies that say "Keep it," but I also know that some guns can be picky about what ammo they like, and there is no rhyme or reason to why. Although most of my shooting days were spent with all ammo and all guns working (with the exception of a Model 61 which apparently liked only Remington HSHP), in the last ten years I have both received free ammo which worked great for me (but not for the guy who gave it to me), and given away ammo which did not. The recipient had no problems with the ammo.

You seem to know what you're talking about. Just sell it to friends for what you paid for it, or, if the going price is higher, a little more. I guarantee you they won't buy it if the price is too high. More likely, they'll be glad to get it.

When I have non-copper plated rounds I want to use up, I'll load 15 copper plated rounds into the bottom of the 25 round mag and then put the non plated rounds at the top.

I've heard that the "copper chasers" help minimize leading.

May just be an old wives tale but it sems to work.

Sure is. There's no "scrubbing" action from plated rounds. All the plating is, is another form of lubrication.
