what to do with new gun

got an m&p 15 orc on its way to my ffl tommorow
when i get it what should i do? take it all apart and clean everything?

how about barrel break in?

Not sure about everyone else, but I only use steel cased ammo in AKs or SKS as that is what they were made for. Even then, I usually shell out the extra few bucks for Silver Bear. The lacquered stuff gums up when hot and causes problems. Heard too many stories about broken extractors and worn chambers to use them in my nice guns. Just my .02

If the rifle won't shoot steel cased Wolf it's not worth having! I don't feed my rifles or pistols a steady diet of it, but it won't hurt them.

As for the Wolf case coating melting off, give it a try. I've been unsuccessful even using a blow torch!

If it works so great, and there is nothing wrong with it, why don't you feed your guns a steady diet of it?

Yep. Contrary to popular belief, it's not really the varnish on the shells that gums up the chamber. It's the steel case itself. Brass cartridges, when fired, expand to fit the chamber forming a very tight seal, then as pressures drop, they contract allowing easy extraction. Steel cases do not do this, or at least to the same degree as brass cases. This leads to more fouling in the chamber, often resulting in stuck casings. Especially if your chamber is not chrome lined. Molly coated casings are another story altogether.

But the main problem I have with most steel cased ammo, is the fact that they usually run steel jacket bullets. Sometimes they copper plate them, but they are still steel jacketed, and it's alot harder on the BBL than the copper jacketing.

It may interest you to learn that extensive military testing of guilding metal-clad steel bullets vs guilding metal ("copper") bullets shows no meaningful difference in barrel wear.

The steel used in small arms ammunition bullet jackets is thin and mild...like the steel used in making "tin" cans.

Military small arms ammunition procurement specifications "MIL-SPECS" always have alternate materials specified for cartridge cases and bullet jackets. The possibility of wartime shortages of strategic materials such as copper, zinc, and brass make this necessary.

Some producers of steel cartridge cases and bullet jackets have brought their manufacturing art and skill to such high levels that they use them almost exclusively because of lower costs. The Russians, the former Soviets and their client states (China, North Korea, the former Yugoslavia, etc.) see nothing wrong with 100% steel cased and bulleted ammo. The French use nothing but steel cased 5.56x45 NATO in their service rifles and machine guns.

As a rule, weapons platforms designed for a wide range of ammunition case materials have larger, sturdier extractors.

I don't feed a steady diet of Wolf because it's so dirty. 1800 rounds of Wolf 9mm thru a M1911 in a two day course was no problem though.

I have a S&W M&P15T and ran around 300 rounds of brass ammo thru it when new and have put around 2000 rounds of Wolf .223 (the current stuff, it has no laquer coating) and had zero issues. Yes its a little dirty, but I switched from CLP lube to Slip 2000 lube and it made a big difference in function and cleaning after shooting.

i get it monday! my ffl wasnt home on friday (but its all good he told me why)
were gonna reload some .223 got prolly 2-300 empty shells. i also have 100 allready loaded into 5 clips i got from my buddy. hes gettin me 5 more for my dad, and a ton of ammo cans. also gave me a carry handle.

im gonna shoot a cheaper round like wolf after i shoot some good brass through. or i may just keep reloading these about 400 rounds i have

what front sight will work with a carry handle?
