Lucked into a trip of a life time. BIL has contacts with a yacht company that scored us a cruise of Alaska's Inner Passage. We leave from Ketchikan, spend 8 days on the boat and dock in Sitka. The wife and I are taking an extra day and a half in Sitka before coming home. Should be plenty to see and have learned a lot from the net but wanted to know if anyone has personal favorites or experiences.

Thanks

#1 is the Sheldon Jackson Museum. They have native totems, and an amazing collection of artifacts, especially fishing tools.

#2 There is a restaurant on the south main street with THE BEST halibut lunch/dinner.

One issue is timing: The cruise ships drop you off for a fixed time and then take off before supper. I usually came by ferry and stayed overnight. This beats the cruise ship shopping mobs.

There's also a really cool old Russian Orthodox Church in Sitka. Awesome architecture from what I recall!

I'm not familiar with K&G, but Shotgun Alley is a ways out Sawmill Creek road towards the old Pulp Mill, so you would need a car to get there.

Orion is near Thomsen Harbor, an easy walk. For that matter, not a bad walk from anywhere in town. Nice shop & I did a bit of trading there.

Sitka Sportsman's is a gun club near the Alaska Marine Highway System terminal, out Halibut Point road near Starrigavan. There is also the Tony Hrebar public shooting range out the Nelson Logging Road near Starrigavan.

If you are in town during the Sitka Summer Music Festival you might find it interesting. World class musicians who are just having a good time for a greatly appreciative audience. You will see the audience dressed in everything from suit & tie to Carhartts and "Sitka Slippers" (BF Goodrich Xtra Tuffs) Sitka Summer Music Festival - Home

The Isabel Miller Museum located at the Centennial Hall has some good exhibits.

Have fun!

You guys are great thanks for suggestions. Do you have a favorite hotel or B&B?

Went on a whale watching boat excursion there. Up close with the whales, sea otters, bears and eagles.
