What was the first handgun you ever shot?

My Model 625 was my introduction.
It is as smooth of a shooter as you can find. I have enjoyed it over the years.

Papa

First handgun was a couple of years ago, in a introduction to firearms course. It was a Glock something. Hated it. Uncomfortable to hold, load, and operate. Tried a few other firearms and settled on a medium frame Ruger revolver for the remainder of the course and the CWP course afterward. The Ruger led me to discover my current favorite, the 686.

An ancient M&P in .38 Special (even back then). It belonged to one of my father's friends, and I was maybe 8 years old. My father never owned a handgun, only a few rifles and shotguns.

The first gun I ever shot was my dad's H&R Model 922 .22 revolver. I must have been nine or ten. He later bought a fancier handgun, the Hi Standard Sport King. No soup can or shotgun shell was safe with this duo and a cheap box of .22 ammo.

1911 and a BHP. I was in my early twenties. I don't remember which came first; I had gone duck hunting with a couple of co-workers, and the one who had the hunting cabin had a couple of pistols along. I don't recall having any strong impressions, except that the Browning was really nicely made.

About ten years later, I shot a Model 29 and another 1911 belonging to my BIL. I didn't enjoy the .44 magnums much, but I thought the 1911 was pretty sweet by comparison: not much recoil, and I could hit something with it.

For a couple of years I maintained a moderate chub for a 1911, but never really felt able to divert the money from motorcycles. I'd still buy a 1911 if the right gun and the money came together, but there are other guns I would buy first. Same with the BHP.

My family wasn't "gun owning", at least not that we kids had any knowledge of. Of course later we found out Dad had always kept a .38 stashed away, but I never did see it.

I did shoot .22s in various camp and Scouting activities, but it wasn't until I was 19 that I had a co-worker/buddy who came by an old (I thought at the time) Colt M1911 and wanted to go shoot it. We threw an empty beer can (yep, started early, and this was after work, we were both carpenter union apprentices) up on road cut on a new highway still closed for construction and proceeded to blast away.

He was irritated that I didn't want to try to turn the thing into a machine gun like he did (missing the can completely all 7 shots), but actually aimed and hit the target 5/7 times. Learned, at least started to, that the M1911 is the easiest gun for me to shoot accurately. It seemed to take forever to learn how to shoot a revolver double action to get as good.

But I got there!

First handgun I fired

The first hand gun that I fired was my Dad's Model 10 38 Special. I was pretty young in grade school...I thought that I really did kick.

My Dad's .25 Italian made automatic and his Colt 32-20 revolve. In the early 60's.

The first handgun I owned was a Nickel M&P (pre-model 10) 38 special 6" barrel. It was a nail driver. I gave $65 used for it in 1976. it was in about 85% cond. with no box, up till then I only owned long guns. Bought it from a gun shop in Shelbyville Tn. I wish I still had it! I LOVED It! Traded it in a few years later (probably in 1980-81) for a Ruger Super Blackhawk. I thought I was the stuff with a 44 Magnum. I think I gave $50 boot.

When I was about 5 Dad came home with 2 HS Military 22. He said one would be mine. He helped me and we shot them, this is probably the hook that was set in my soul for life on pistols and guns.

Then one day he got the hots for a Browning sweet 16 and away the 22's went. Don't know where the 16 went.

I grew up shooting Dad's Ruger SS 22. I still have it and use it. It is great to teach pistol safety and shooting to new folks.

I'd been shooting a .177 target pistol since I was twelve, but I didn't fire a handgun until I'd been in the Army for about a year. I could check out a High Standard m-100 and 100 rounds on my lunch hour at the main post range.

An old Colt 1911 5". I was 12, 1968, my dad had a great friend that was a former Marine Gunny, he felt it was the only proper gun lol. Dad was a wheel gun guy, had two snub S&W .38spl.

I shot the 1911 first, then one of dad's snubs.

Man, you young guys got to shoot some fancy stuff. 1st pistol
I can remember shooting was a old single shot Stevens tip down.
It was my great uncle's "Hawg" killer. I remember sitting in
my old man's lap shooting at a lard can, don't remember if I
hit it, I wasn't more than 5 at the time.
