What was your first gun?

My first was a used Remington 742 in 30-06, I was 18 or so. My brother and I put about a hundred rds through it in a day.

Haven't shot it since. Our shoulders are still sore. Haha

Mine was this German Noris .22 garden gun my uncle brought back from WW2 and gave it to me in 1957. I stained the blond stock and he got mad and took it back a few year later. He then gave it back to me about 5 years ago but it was a paint splattered, rusted, split stocked hulk. I returned it to it's original condition. It still has the cartouche in the stock and the original owner's initials carved in it.

First I bought was in high school in 1966. Worked all summer and paid $68 for a grade one browning and a brick of ammo. Mostly a safe queen today.

First shot a lever action BB gun.
Then learned on a single shot bolt action Stevens 22
My first gun of my own was given to me and it was a Glenfield model 60. 22 semi. Glenfield was a division of Marlin if I remember correctly.

Fond Memories

First was the Red Ryder BB Gun circa 1957, wore that one out. I remember shooting a Blue Jay at close range and watching the BB bounce off and thinking, I gotta get a bigger gun. Dad must have been clairvoyant because in 1959 he bought a Winchester 55 Single Shot bottom ejector 22 for me. He had a Winchester M24 16 Ga that I shot on occasion but it was a bit brutal. While he was stationed in Germany, he got a deal on a Fox 20ga BST bored skeet 1 and 2. It was "my gun" as well. When I was 18 I purchased a Remington 552 for $55 as MY FIRST GUN. Very accurate and still have it. In fact, still have all of them and my father's as well. But more important I have those memories of time spent in the field with him.

First gun was a Red Ryder BB gun when I was around 7. My first "real" gun was a Ruger 10/22 that was my great grandfather's that he used coon hunting. I was 9 when he gave it to me and it is sitting in my gun safe right now. My 6yo daughter started shooting it this summer and I have now officially handed it down to her. My great grandfather realized how important it is to hand down something to the younger generation and I realized how important it was this summer. That old Ruger has a Weaver 2x scope on it that is so worn the finish is nearly gone. I can't tell you how much food that rifle has put on generations of my family's plates, but it makes my daughter's eyes light up when I pull it out of the safe and tell her we're going to the range.

As a testament to the gun and scopes craftsmanship, I can still cover 10 rounds with a quarter fired from 50yds.

Mine a Benjamin rifle for plinking .177 in my school gun club and them my first handgun a S&W 639 semi auto and I still have it.

I bought a British Enfield .303, the last variant they made, in 1994 for a whopping $75 all numbers matching in what was our last true general store. I walked out of there with two boxes of ammo too and the gun for less than $100. I had that gun a long time and let my sister's fiance use it for deer hunting because he couldn't afford anything. The (insert four letter word here your choice) left the gun out in the rain for a day or two and it rusted up solid. When I got it back I was able to get the action working again but I could not bear to look at it anymore and sold it.

My first handgun was an Old Model Blackhawk with a 4 5/8 inch barrel in .357.

Just got back into guns after a 45+ year absence. That's when I got out of the military. Never grew up around guns.
So I guess my first gun was an M14. Government gave it to me but it was still mine. That being said, as of last Oct I purchased an M&P22 to start with. Then a Girsan 1911 .45. Then I bought the M&P Pro Core 9mm and just a couple of weeks ago got a SA 1911 in 9mm. Please don't talk about revolvers, or I'll probably start buying them too. Does it ever end??

Never was given any thing of a gun. Had to earn 'em. First one I bought with my hard earned money, was a 922 H&R 22lr.

My first gun is a S&W model 36-7 1972 in 98%+ condition. No box or papers. Nubered grips. It is now wearing a set of Patrick Grashorn's stag grips.

This is the honest to God truth. I brought it from my girl friend in 2007 a few weeks before I dumper her, again. She is a heck of a shot, had a 20 yard range in the cellar, and has a temper. We had been seeing each other off and on (mostly off) for thirty years. I considered the purchase a good life insurance policy.

BTW she is a good church going woman and was a good companion. I do not blame her. Still, I love the story and the gun.

I never was allowed to have a BB gun because my dad shot his cousins front tooth out with one playing war I guess he figured I would do something stupid too when I was 16 a couple of my friends were going rabbit hunting so I went to my dad and asked him when I could start hunting I has a car at the time and he said well I guess if your old enough to kill yourself with a car a gun would be alright to so I got my grandpas Parker double and the rest is history

Daisy Red Ryder lever action BB Gun (and I did not shoot my eye out ! HOWEVER I did shoot out a living room window with the projectile continuing on and breaking my Mother's favorite picture frame)

AT THE RIGHT TIME/PLACE

I bought a boatload of used police mdl 10 38 specials when they switched over to 357's in 1975 N.H. as a freshman in college, before I ever fired a gun. Bought em for +/- 35$ from one gun shop, drove 20 minutes to a few others & sold em for 40 +/- $'s, NEVER fired one & wish I'd of kept a few. Never kept 1 longer than an hour. 1'st gun I kept/fired was a glenfield semi 22 lr from K mart with a scope & brick of ammo, 60$? new 1977.

First hand gun: Browning High Power, bought in 1967 when I was in the Army.
First rifle: 1918 manufactured Winchester M1917. The same.
Still have them both.

My grandfather gave me a 12 gauge Hi-Standard pump shotgun when I was 16 y.o. I hunted bobwhite quail with him. I still have it.
