What was Your First New Ride

Mine was a '67 Ford Fairlane 500 2DHT 289 engine.
Cost me $1800 in January of '68. Gas was 26 cents a gallon then.

Bought a '77 Ford F150 4x4, short wheel base, 351M, power steering and brakes, 4 speed w/granny 1st gear. It also had an AM radio.

Sticker price was $6300. I traded in a '66 C10 Chevy, SWB, 283 three on the three, 90K miles on it. It also had an AM radio. I was allowed $1300 trade in. Only paid $550 for that old Chevy.

Financed $5000 for 36 months. Wish I could do that deal again!

My first new vehicle was a '93 Honda CBR900rr. I still own it but probably not for much longer. People around here drive to crazy for me, & pull right out in front of my truck all the time. I can only imagine what riding a bike around here would be like...

My first NEW ride was a 1980 Mustang ll. The engine blew up 18 days after the two year warranty expired and Ford told me there was nothing that they could do. It cost me a bundle to fix and was never the same after that so I promptly sold it. The worst car I've ever had!

Bought 2 used ones before buying my first new one. Drove the used ones an average of 2.5 years before dumping them. I still own the second new vehicle I bought, a 1988 K5 Blazer. It's pushing close to a half million miles on the original engine. Just about everything else has been replaced with the exception of the alternator.

My first "showroom new" vehicle was a 1975 Honda CB400F (400 Super Sport). I sold my dirt bike and scrimped and saved to pay cash for it.

I REALLY wish I still had it! What a great little bike.

1968 442 Olds. Brown w/black racing stripe. Black interior. Red line tires. 400 CI 350 HP w/4 speed & Hurst shifter. AM radio tuned to rock station. Back seat saw more love than a policeman's flashlight.
Power steering by Armstrong. (No power steering, takes horse power off the engine). No AC. Takes HP off the engine. Fun car. Only spent one night in jail for drag racing. Those were the days my friend. We thought they'd never end, oh yes those were the days.

We had two kids by then and my wife was applying to grad school.
So we thought we needed a new car. She didn't get in so we could

Have never bought another new vehicle. Do have another red

1972 AMC green Hornet. If I remember it cost $2600.

1972 BMW R75/5. I paid $2200 for it, about the same price as a Harley Davidson XLCH or a VW Beetle. Over the next 25 years or so, I put 197,000 miles on it without major repair. I set the valves, changed the oil, and replaced tires, mufflers and fork seals. I rode it to work, toured on it, and garnered trophies in vintage motocross and trials.

The engine and drivetrain were so flexible I could move off from a dead stop in top gear, and run it all the way up to a top speed in the neighborhood of 110 mph. Far and away the best motorcycle of its day, and the best $2200 I ever spent.

Hey Muley. Not my first one but in 1988 I bought the twin to your truck used with 37,200 on the clock. From the original owner & I knew the salesman the sold it new. Paid 4 grand for it & when I moved to Oregon in 2003 gave it to my son in law. Had 113,000 on the clock. Good old truck with some dents,etc. My son in law has a body shop & restored it. It's show truck now. But my first truck was a 1954 F-100 V-8 with overdrive. $1988 bucks out the door with a 596 dollar trade in from a '46 Ford 2 door sedan.Those were the days !!!!!

My first and only "new" car was a 1964 Dodge Dart GT, 273 V8, 4 speed, not really "fast" but fun to drive. Probably the reason I bought "new" was my previous car was a 1957 Ford Fairlane owned by an "older" couple and driven mostly around town. I blew up the engine,........ worst car I ever owned! Had a few "new to me" rides before, and only "new to me" rides since then.

1967 Chevelle, Gold 2 dr. with vinyl roof, 283 cubic inch engine, auto trans with gear shift on floor, bucket seats, black interior. A little over $2700.00. Had recently got discharged from USAF and got a job with GM at the Allison Tank Plant by Cleveland Hopkins Airport.
