What was your first Smith and Wesson??

19-4 in early 1980s when I got my pistol permit. Wish I never traded it off. I have several 19-3 and a 19-5 but that first one was a beauty.

My first S&W was Model 581 bought from a neighbors drunken divorce sale. Unfortunately 30 years ago wasn't very knowledgeable about firearms. I carried it with me while driving OTR for a few years and sold it to a pawnshop.

Mine was a 29-2 6 1/2" Dirty Harry special. I just happened to be cruising thru Montgomery Ward (back when they existed and still carried firearms) in the early 1970s and stuck my head into the gun section and they were just placing a nice shiny new 29-2 in the case. At straight retail, which was unusual at the time. I JUMPED on it. When I asked about it while filling out the paperwork the gun guy said that a lady had ordered it for her husband for a present but he decided it was too big and heavy for him and she never actually took delivery on it. It was in the case for literally less than 2 minutes. I still own it. Don't carry it any more but I used to way back in the day. I had to pull it out twice, never had to drop the hammer. Bad guys are impressed by it.

When I got out of college and had my first real job, I looked for a "Dirty Harry" Model 29. Unfortunately, they were as scarce as hen's teeth in 1977-78, so instead I purchased a brand spankin' new blued 4" Model 57 (with the mahogany presentation case). It turned out to be an excellent choice for me...plenty of power and very accurate. I put quite a few rounds through it, and due to cost of ammo I started reloading .41 Magnum. However, about two years after I bought it a burglar broke into my apartment and stole that Model 57 along with my roommate's 6" Colt Python. Dang the bad luck! The burglar only left me the presentation case and tools. I only recently replaced that stolen Model 57 with a minty nickel 4" Model 57 from the same era...and I still have the original case. The Model 57 is still one of my favorites!

Wow! This one took some thinking. Mine probably was a 4 inch bbl blued steel model 19. I remember I traded a like new Winchester 9422 lever action rifle even up for it, which at the time was probably a fair trade, but I often remember regretting the trade. I really loved that little Winchester and it probably took me 10 years or more to get it replaced.

My first was a 4" Model 19, almost 50 years ago. Traded it. Missed it. Bought another a few years later, but with a 6" barrel. Split the forcing cone with factory .357 ammo. Factory replaced the barrel, but I asked for a 4" barrel and a smooth "combat" trigger. Factory honored requests at no charge. I still have the gun 45 years later. I rarely shoot it since I am fortunate to have other guns to "play" with but won't part with it. Marvelous revolver. I'm tempted to buy another, just because.

Mod 67-1 given to me as a birthday gift. My father had purchased it off the hip of his gunsmith who had tuned it himself. It has by far the best revolver trigger of my collection.

An original 442 I bought in the early 90s when I went into dicks. I am carrying it today as we speak. Its battered and bruised and now wears herrett detective grips. The little snub
has only needed a firing pin and frame screw after seeing many hundreds of rounds and still shoots point of aim if I do my part.
