What was your first Smith and Wesson??

My first S&W was my first pistol I bought. a sigma series 9F in 1999 for $300 if I remember correctly. Trigger sucked and wouldn't chamber hollow points until the feed ramp was polished. Guy at the gun shop talked me into it and out of the Glock 17 I wanted. He threw in 100 rds of the dirtiest and crappiest 9mm I ever shot. It was my do everything pistol for a couple years. CCW, combat league, night stand, even shot a deer with it. Traded away many years ago. Kind of wish I still had it.

New 6.5" Blue M29-2. Got it for $350 in February 1978 from Shooters Supply Gun shop in Holcomb NY. Down the rode apiece Creekside Gun shop had the exact same model for $700. Unfortunately it was stolen on August 31 2012 by a punk kid that lived 1/4 mile down the road. I discovered it was gone the next day shortly before I was informed my mother had just died. It's not likely I'll ever get it back either.

A new-in-the-box model 17-4 that I still have and shoot a good bit (top right in the below pic). I love the gun, but wish I still had the one I traded to get it.......a used Colt .22 Diamondback. Five years later the Diamondback was discontinued and the cost for one has skyrocketed.

A model 28-2 with a 4" barrel. I bought it (ca 1972) strictly to have it converted to .44 Spl using an original Model of 1950 barrel purchased from J&G Rifle Ranch. It was converted by George Matthews of Downey, CA into the most accurate Smith that I own. Still have it...

Adios,

My first was a 17-2 3t's bought December of 1975 for Christmas present from my wife. Still own and use it.
It was followed in April 1976 by a 27-2 3t's when I figured out we were getting a tax refund check.

Mine was a plain-jane used Model 10 I bought with my second weekly paycheck from my first summer job back in the mid-60s. Weekly salary was roughly $75 and I paid $50 for the revolver. My first paycheck had met a similar fate, but the gun was a nicely sporterized 03A3 Springfield. The vast majority of my discretionary purchases since then have been in a similar vein.

The First S&W; a 1985 S&W Mdl 29, 44Rem
Mag, blued, 6-1/2" half lug bbl, new in the
box (blue slip cover box), owner's paper,
cleaning rod and cleaning mop, and brown
moisture barrier paper.

I was new to S&Ws so I didn't know what
dash model, or if it had the 3 T's (target
trigger, hammer, stock/grips).

I do remember I traded it off for another
S&W, but don't remember which one.

First one I owned was a 67 no dash. Gift from dad. Still have it, first year production complete with stainless sights. First one I spent my money on, hmmmmm. I think a 36 SB two inch. That one is long gone. For some reason I don't seem to hang on to J frames. There was a 28-2 back in that same time frame, probably number 3. And a 59. Both of those are gone as well.

My first was a M-14 (K 38) I bought just before graduating pharmacy school in the spring of 1968. Dad had a K 22 and I had shot it quit a bit from jr high through college. I did pick up a K 22 of my own a couple of years later, still have both.

Last year while in a local shop to order a M 48(.22 Mag) I spotted what looked like a K 38 Combat Masterpiece, like I had qualified with in USAF OCS. When they pulled it out it turned out to be a M 18 . .22 Combat Masterpiece, I went home, did some research called back and made a deal on it. Now I need to find a .38 cal Combat Masterpiece, 4" to match.
