What was your first Smith and Wesson??

My first S&W was a Model 60 that I bought at Davi's Guns in Raleigh, North Carolina, in or around 2002. I remember riding over to Davi's on my Harley Sportster that afternoon.

Wish I still had that old rig. It's funny how we never regret buying them, but we sure do regret selling them.

Mike
I'm thinking of heading down the same path of parting with mine. 60, no dash.

Hello:
What was your very first Smith and Wesson that you purchased?

Mine was a model 64-5 from a few years ago. I got back into shooting a few years ago.
I have several now, but the 64 was my first and favoriteView attachment 787815
I'm waiting for my first S&W right now. Ordered a 686-6 plus deluxe with a 6" barrel. Looking forward to having it home soon.

4" Model 19. 1980, I think, maybe 1981. I had it nearly 20 years before I blew it up with over-loaded ammunition I purchased at a gun show. 1997

2" Model 10 followed. 1981.

Too many after that to be able to list in chronological order. :geek:

I'm not a wheel gun owner but I do like them. My first S&W is still my favorite - M&P15 Sport II. Since then I bought a 380EZ for my wife so she could get her carry permit. That worked out extremely well. I liked that one so much I bought the 9mmEZ for my EDC. She started going shooting with me a lot since her carry license was obtained so we ended up with another Sport II. A his-n-her's thing, both are scoped. Since then I haven't purchased any more. I still have a 92FS in two-tone as my safe queen. I really like that but it's more for show with the walnut grips and Trijicon sights. Nice firearm but too big and heavy for an EDC. I am looking at the new EZ 30 Super Carry but that caliber is not very popular just yet. I'm going to wait and see. Love S&W products for sure.

Beauty, was it a service weapon in a prior life? My 10-8 was in the big 🍎
Yes my 64 was an overseas LE trade in. Bobbed hammer and DAO.
I have a 1956 M&P 4 inch I just bought that is excellent. My 64 has been massaged by a very good gunsmith. A joy to shoot, but my ol 1956 is a tad smoother, but that 64 was my first and no way I would ever sell it

When I got out of college and had my first real job, I looked for a "Dirty Harry" Model 29. Unfortunately, they were as scarce as hen's teeth in 1977-78, so instead I purchased a brand spankin' new blued 4" Model 57 (with the mahogany presentation case). It turned out to be an excellent choice for me...plenty of power and very accurate. I put quite a few rounds through it, and due to cost of ammo I started reloading .41 Magnum. However, about two years after I bought it a burglar broke into my apartment and stole that Model 57 along with my roommate's 6" Colt Python. Dang the bad luck! The burglar only left me the presentation case and tools. I only recently replaced that stolen Model 57 with a minty nickel 4" Model 57 from the same era...and I still have the original case. The Model 57 is still one of my favorites!

Although not my first S&W I did the same thing you did. I bought the same boxed Model 57 because Model 29 were scarce as hens teeth. I sold mine 2-3 years ago for about 7 times what I paid for it.

My first S&W was a 24-3, since .44 Special is my favorite caliber. After that I picked up a 66-7 and a custom 627-3.

Here in Norway there are some restrictions on how many guns of the same type/mechanism/caliber you can own. Otherwise, I'd have a lot more Smith & Wessons.

In addition to these three Smiths, I have quite a few other revolvers and pistols from different brands, but definitely not as many as I'd like. The 24-3 along with some of my other .44 revolvers (and one .45):

My first Smith & Wesson was a Model 59. I got it from a cop who was issued it and had nothing but problems with it. I got it pretty cheap. I had heard a lot the original mags were bad. I bought all new mags & it ran Great!
I still have it but don't shoot it much anymore.

I got a 10-5 in 1979 from a fellow that borrowed $50 from me since he said he couldn't pay me back the $50. It was like new then but I sold it in 2014 along with most of the many guns that I had.

My first was a 686-1 4" barrel. It was the first gun that made me enjoy handgun shooting, it was just slightly too long for carry and the wood target grips didn't fit my hands well. I tried many things to make it work but ended up selling it, it boomeranged 🪃 back to me only to sell it again half a year later when I still couldn't make it work. Realized I needed something that could do carry and home defense work so I found my Grail gun which is a 686-3 with gorgeous wood combats. It fits my hand much better and while 1.5" might seem miniscule those of us who carry know that makes a MASSIVE difference.... Especially for those who choose OWB concealed carry with a long cover garment. Don't have a picture of my first but this one carries on its legacy and is still a 686.

K-14 Masterpiece, if I recall that correctly. 6" .38 Spl. that I bought to compete in the Police "L" matches I was participating in...1973 or so. Nice gun. Did the job. S&W has really priced itself out of the market in later years, for me, anyway, while the quality of finishing has gone down...used to be you could shave in the reflection of a Model 29 or 27. Too much reliance on stainless steel. The Model 60 was a good bet, but they've carried it to an extreme. Just my opinion.
