What was your first Smith and Wesson??

My first gun was an inherited Model 36 w/2" barrel in 1987--- was a police back up gun. Appears to be a late 1960's gun with plenty of holster wear --- shoots nice though. First "purchased" gun was a Model 5904 - but I don't want to talk about that less than stellar gun.

Model 17 8 3/8" barrel. Put a lot of rounds thru it before getting centerfire revolvers and semis.

Still have it, maybe 45 years later? May try it for some club level silhouettes this week.

Unfortunately, my first S&W I owned came when my father passed away. He was a Smith guy and had a fair number of S&Ws. I sold ones that didn't interest me and kept the ones that did. Like others before me, I foolishly sold several I now regret: 617-4, CS9 and 57.

Kept others like his 19, 27, 41, 61 and Victory.

First one I bought was a 1967 5", 3T, 27-2 which has an incredible trigger.

My 66-8 with the 4 inch barrel. I got the S&W revolver bug after that and headed down the rabbit hole with others. This was only five years ago.
Model 28, 1972. Still have it. First time out, the gun consistently shot to 3 o'clock regardless of distance. Put it on a level surface and noticed the barrel was set off at 3 degrees to the right. Return to Smith. Came back 6 months later with target proficiency. Best gun in my safe!

My first S&W was this 686, bought new around 1987 or '88, I believe. It's stock except for a great tuning job and the Pachymar Professional grips. My neighbor then was a gunsmith who specialized in tuning S&W revolvers. Most people say it's best trigger they've ever felt. I don't know about that, but it's a great shooting pistol!

Some shop-made snapcaps, made by the gunsmith, Eugene Salach:

My first Smith and Wesson was a 1974 28-2 (Highway Patrolman) that I purchased in 2011. It was one of the first handguns that I owned, after about 40 years of nothing but long guns. (My first firearm of any kind was a Winchester Model 37 single shot 20 guage shotgun that I received for my 13th birthday.) 1755964332149.webp

Hello:
What was your very first Smith and Wesson that you purchased?

Mine was a model 64-5 from a few years ago. I got back into shooting a few years ago.
I have several now, but the 64 was my first and favoriteView attachment 787815
Mine was a model 19 bought new at a local gun shop in Florida for a security job at ringside sporting events when they came to town in 1975. Set me back $270.

If memory serves me correctly, in about 1974, I bought a new 5" Mod. 27, I was just starting to shoot PPC matches and I thought that would be the ideal pistol for that, I quickly found out that I really didn't like the balance and sold it, ended up buying a 6" Mod. 14 and had it tuned by a friend. I have owned a number of Smiths since then, the one that I miss the most is my Mod. 58 that was stolen from me two years ago, absolutely my favorite pistol, for me the balance was just perfect and it pointed better than slim barrel pistols, that's the reason that I have a 3" Mod. 13 now, along with a number of other revolvers and semi-autos.

I'm not a wheel gun owner but I do like them. My first S&W is still my favorite - M&P15 Sport II. Since then I bought a 380EZ for my wife so she could get her carry permit. That worked out extremely well. I liked that one so much I bought the 9mmEZ for my EDC. She started going shooting with me a lot since her carry license was obtained so we ended up with another Sport II. A his-n-her's thing, both are scoped. Since then I haven't purchased any more. I still have a 92FS in two-tone as my safe queen. I really like that but it's more for show with the walnut grips and Trijicon sights. Nice firearm but too big and heavy for an EDC. I am looking at the new EZ 30 Super Carry but that caliber is not very popular just yet. I'm going to wait and see. Love S&W products for sure.
A good friend, older lady, bought the .380 EZ for her CCW with V-Crown rounds and loves it.

My first S&W was this 4" 586 ND . Purchased from a local LEO that used it on their competitive shooting team. She had the trigger and hammer jeweled and the inner workings tuned to perfection. I gifted it to my younger brother a few years ago when he moved to Florida.

Mine too, except I replaced the Goncalo Alves stocks with Pachmayr Presentations. I even remember the serial number; present day finds me with an M&P .40c which I also love.

1977 when I turned 21 and was able to buy a handgun from a regular store… a Mod15 from B&B Sales in N Hollywood … still have it and unfortunately don't carry or shoot it that much anymore

A model 28, 6" S prefix…..traded a 4-5/8" Blackhawk .357 new model towards it. Long gone as that was '85 or '86…later replaced with a minty 6" version and also another in 4" with S prefix. My 1st brand new S&W was a 4" 686 purchased for $268 new a few days after boot camp in July of '87. Love .357 magnums.
