What was your first Smith and Wesson??

I traded some cash and a 303 jungle carbine for a blue, 4" model 25-5 (.45 Colt) at a gunshow while in college in the 80s. Back then, the available ammo wasn't known as 'cowboy action' loads, but was essentially that. Later, some Silvertips became available, but that thing never shot better than 4" groups at 50 ft. I wasn't familiar with chamber throats back then … and now I stick to 44s or 45ACP, which are consistent in S&W revolvers.

I was right out of college and my first job was teaching in a high school. The janitor sold me a WWII S&W 38 which had been pawned with him for $50. It had been chromed with plastic stag grips. It lead to a 70 plus collection of S&Ws. Still have it, though I have been selling my collection off. No kids and my wife passed away; dog cannot shoot straight. Main pieces now are a 1854 Volcanic 8" Navy and a Model 1, first issue.

In 1979 I was 19 years old and I bought a model 66 with a 6 inch barrel. Still have it today and the box. I have always liked it. Larry

What was your very first Smith and Wesson that you purchased?

Mine was a model 64-5 from a few years ago. I got back into shooting a few years ago.
I have several now, but the 64 was my first and favoriteView attachment 787815

While I didn't buy it myself, my first Smith was a model 36 in nickel that my dad bought for me when I first joined the PD. He said our issue 64 was too big for concealed carry... and he was right!
The first Smith I BOUGHT was a model 1917 in .45 acp. Nice gun, but a bit big for me.

I have a concealed holster and carry my 64 and my 1956 M&P in and for me it works. The 64-5 is a nice HB and my ol 1956 is a tapered one, both are 4 inch. The 64 is my absolute favorite

Used at the time it had a Waller & Sons hammer shroud on it. Unfortunately the shroud developed an unrepairable crack so it's since been removed and the holes filled a those are long out of production.

I'm a little late on this post but my first S&W was a blue M19 with a 4in barrel. It was bought in 1970 or 1971, can't remember. It was bought in Mobile, Al. when I was 21 or 22 years old. Ah the good old days. Traded it a year or so later for something that I can't recall. Thanks S&W forum.

A used 637-2 bought at a Norfolk gun show in 08. There were dealers there offering new ones with a rebate from S&W but I decided to buy this one from a table thinking it was a good price. It was sold as-is, dirty, not cleaned, and I guess it had just been traded in. Not a smart decision.
That was my first and I just sold my last, a Model 63 on the Forum.

My first S&W is a purchased NIB 1st issue Model 14 Masterpiece, still in the box after all these years, exactly where it will stay. It is the only one of the many S&W's in the stable that has remained just like it left the factory. The others are well cherished, and are fired on occasion and a well carried to this day, smoothed and tuned 469 for daily carry. The old Smith's are highly regarded by me, old world quality from a time long past. Thank you Smith & Wesson for some very fine iron.

An 8 3/8" barrelled Model 14. It was nice and shot well but was like carrying a short cane. I prefer 4" to 6" barrels myself

First was a used US Customs officer's surplus 5906. I didn't realize what I had at the time and sold it a couple of years later. I wish I still had it!

Model 19-3 6" nickel. Bought on my 21st birthday January 1975 at San Jose CA while I was stationed at the Presidio of Monterey. I still have it and take it out several times a year to shoot it. Beautiful piece. Model 19 on the bottom, Model 29-2 bought in 1978 on the top

S&W Model 10-8 HB square butt I bought new in around '78/79. I think I gave around $240-250 or so, which was a full weeks pay back then for me, LOL. I still have it and it's retired in excellent condition, I have many others to shoot.
