I wish I could remember more. Given the on screen violence I'm pretty sure it was a theatrical release. Something keeps telling me it was made during the start of the western movie decline in Hollywood.

Could it be Rough Night In Jericho where George Peppard was getting whipped by Slim Pickens but ended up crushing his scull with a chunk of wood at a stage stop? Dean Martin was the bad guy. That comment above about a wagon axil or whatever makes me think that's the one. Peppard carried two Colts in shoulder holsters in it.
