I'd like to predicate my post with a reminder of the forum guidelines...please don't mention any politics, etc.

I was talking to a few guys I know at the gun show today (great show by the way...good news!).

Some of us commented on what gun collecting will be like in 20 years from now. Comments ranged from: 'A rich man's sport'. 'All the "good ones" will be gone'. 'Ammo prices will be unbelievable'. 'People will still be buying and paying for quality'.

Should you have any predictions, or wish to chime in, please do so. I never would have guessed that within a 5-6 year time frame Colt Pythons would have appreciated 300% +......

"Remember those crazy NRA gun owning whackos? I can't believe people used to be allowed to own guns"

Kidding folks.

Guns will all be made in China out of paper machete and they will be disposable. They will all come preloaded and once you shoot the ammo out of them you just throw them away and buy another one. They will generally work if you don‘t get them wet or use them in really humid climates. They will not be accurate but will be cheap.

The only exceptions of course will be the German made air rifles that will cost $300,000 each and shoot .30 caliber pellets at 1500 feet per second with superb precision. You of course will need a special federal tax license to own one and it will of course come with a GPS tracking chip imbedded in it.

The gun not the license.

Hmmm, gun "collecting" appears to be a "rich man's sport" now from what I am seeing on those fine old hardly fired S&W's and Colts.

Thank goodness I don't collect, just shoot.

But I suspect it will be about the same, just the semi autos will find a place in the "collecting" interests of the young folks that are just now getting into shooting.

I too went to a fine show in Fond du Lac, WI today. Great show and the biggest (500 tables) that I have been to. I know the shows in other States are much larger and a 500 table show is the considered small to some. But today's show was well attended and had everything from and old French handgun of some sort (1790-1820) to the latest greatest plastic money can buy. I suspect there will always be a collector out there for all types of handguns and long guns that exist.

Now if the price on pre-lock Smiths would just come DOWN (a guy can dream ya know). I rekindled my interest a few years too late. Sigh...

If you look at gun shows now: it is an old-mans' sport. There are few young people that collect anything, much less guns.

"Collecting": putting an arbitrary value to a rare inanimate object is becoming passe'. Collecting "friends" on facebook is in.

I think it will die out by our own omission.

I think it'll be much like how collecting old, quality pocket knives has gone. The people interested in quality, handmade antiques will die off and be replaced by the tactical generation, and priced and interest in these items will die as well.

The young people on the forum with be complaining about the old people carelessly polluting the environment with burning gunpowder as opposed to just getting with it and buying their solar powered ray guns.

20 years form now if folks still collect or allowed to collect working firearms, prices will be even crazier than they are today. It will have truly developed into a rich persons hobby. I also think, gun owners will be even less willing to share information about the scope of their collections than today.

If there is anything worse than the above it's: Tarsus and Glock will have achieved a revered collectors status:eek: Now that is just plain UGLY thought.

I predict that all those painted purple, pink, green and orange guns--will be the collectable pieces. However, im not willing to spend more than a dime on any of those. :D

I still can not get over 3-5 grand for Colt Pythons in used condition. I understand the thinking but that is a lot of money. I have bought cars for less. I am afraid that they are going to do nothing but increase.

Prewar S&W's will be like 1st gen SAAs or matching Lugers. Pre Mdl number S&Ws will be like prewars now.

Not to worry , if we start getting on board with 1st Gen Glocks now , you'll be in good shape in 20yrs.
