As I mentioned in my introduction, I'm planning to buy what seems to be a new old stock Model 41 with 5.5" barrel.

Though I already have Steyr, Bersa, Browning and CZ pistols, this will be my first S&W.

Can anybody tell me an approximate manufacturing date for a serial number beginning with UAF letter combination?

PS: I know ... I know ... I should buy the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, but it can't be found around here.

It looks like late 90's, but the U and V prefixes jump around a little. Someone more knowledgeable than me can narrow that down for you.

Precisely today arrived the new baby.

A pristine Model 41, 5" barrel, in the UAFxxxx serial range (1997), never fired, from a collector's drawer.

Doesn't have a name yet, but something will come to mind.

Sounds like you got a great one for sure. It will amaze you just how well this gun can shoot for sure. Mine is a 1958 model which I call "Smithy". I am fortunate enought o own a M46 as well which is just nicknamed 46. I really enjoy shooting it as well every chance I get.
