What wine to pair with fried cicadas? Best answer gets a Chien Noir hat.

Boones Farm strawberry hill for the wine.
Alabama for the music.
Cut off Ts and cut off jeans for the attire.
And a sawed off 12 ga. for the shooting iron!!

My mixed breed Jack Russell loves them. She sits outside and waits for them to come out of the ground. She believes they are at the peak of flavor at that moment when they are freshest. She prefers them raw - more land sushi than land shrimp. Being a teetotaler she prefers water, but thinks Perrier is good for special occasions.

Seriously, you haven't lived until you have chased be of them around the house. She has slipped in on several occasions with a live one.

Once when my daughter was still in high school she came in with a live one. Sarah had friends over at the time. The bug got loose. To say there was screaming is an understatement. I could not hear for two days. To this day I think Jackie did that on purpose.

OK Menu:

Appetizers: Toasted cicadas with a horseradish remoulade: Home gown and pickled horseradish, mayo, fresh herbs (basil & oregano) and a few deveined and seeded peppers of choice.

Also, served with a spicy guacamole for dipping.

Main course:: Fried cicadas with Thai Basil.
Fried cicadas mixed with Thai Basil leaves, red chili oil, red curry, shredded carrots, cabbage, green onion, all sauteed together (to A #4 or #5 in spiciness)

White rice

Sweet pickled cucumbers: THINLY sliced cucumbers and red onions, pickled in diluted rice wine vinegar, with ginger and a little sugar or honey, sweetened to taste.

Wine: a good Italian table wine like Riunite, cella or a grappa

Dessert: Hot fudge sundaes made with a good vanilla bean ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream and sprinkled with toasted cicadas, topped with a cherry!

Forgot:

Dress something out of 1950's or 60's French Indochina-maybe a white suit and fedora al la Sydney Greenstreet. Sidearm: A Colt hammerless in 32 or 380 with a fancy stilleto. A good cigar. Music: Some 1940's torch song. Ceiling fan going in the background with a good cigar. Marlene Dietrich singing, of course. Or maybe Billie Holiday Yeah!! Billie Holiday.
