What type of dinner meal would you prepare for someone who is celebrating their Irish heritage? Besides the beer part. :)

Thanks

While their food is somewhat lacking, they make one of the finest Whiskeys known to man, IMO

no wonder the irish left ireland when they could. the food was terrible.

I'm thinking the Irish Potatoes must be Red Potatoes.

Great Grampa and Grandma came from Ireland....they ain't eaten any white spuds....

My Gr. Gr. Grandparents immigrated to North America, from County Cavan Ireland, in 1831. Met on the ship as kids and married when they grew up. We're still Presbyterians and our favorite meal is Roast Beef, potatoes and carrots cooked with the roast and topped with Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Apple or Pumpkin pie for desert. Whiskey with Canada Dry or 7-up, before the meal and coffee with Whiskey and Baileys after.

Corned beef & cabbage, what else?
Always make it, my kids love it, & one of my wifes favorites too!
Boil the corned beef for approx. four hrs. Add the potatoes & carrots until tender and then the cabbage about 15 minutes before serving.
Yuuummm!!!

Corned beef & cabbage is an American adaption of a tradtional dish... due to unavailability of whatever meat they used on tha auld sod. (A very dim tickling of memory suggests bacon....our bacon is a very different cut of meat.)

Really traditional would be boiled potatos and buttermilk.

I am FBI (Full Blooded Irish) born in Longford, Ireland and was brought to the great U.S. of A. when I was a wee lad... thank God! On special occasions my dear ol' Mum cooked leg of lamb, boiled potatoes and steamed vegetables with mint jelly on the side.
For what it's worth, I prefer steak, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, and a salad, on St. Paddy's Day.
Stay away from the green beer!!
