What Years Was the Model 27-2 Made?

I live in California and our FFL's can't have any firearm not included on our approved for sale in California roster, shipped to the FFL unless it is 50 years old or older. I had bid on a Model 66 that I could not have shipped since it was manufactured in 1976 and was not old enough to fall into the Curio Relic category.

Now I am thinking about a Model 27-2. I did just purchase a new Model 19 Classic series that I pick up Saturday. But I am getting the vintage S&W itch.

Not all model 27-2s will be at or older than 50 years. They were made from ca. 1961 to 1982.

You'd be safe with one with an S prefix serial number, as those ended in about 1969. But the best option is to join the SWCA and find out the exact ship month and year for potential purchases.
