While driving home today from a little bit of shooting I was thinking about my 625 and decided to give it a name. In just a minute it came to me... "Thumper." Why not? My 03 is named "Crackbaby." My M-1 is named "Blondie" and my AR-15 is named "Black Beauty." There can't be anything wrong with giving a rifle or pistol a name. How about the rest of you... have any of your handguns, etc. got names? Sincerely. brucev.

Short of refering to them as "her" from time to time...no names here.

Certainly not outside of tradition, as I understand it, anyway. The pioneers frequently gave their rifles names, though, in spite of that, I cannot recall any of them. Maybe "Old Betsy" and Daniel Boone... ? :o

Jeff Cooper was forever calling his favorite heavy "Baby". In his last years, the rifle's significance apparently increased - and he elevated it to "Baby the Great". :)

None of mine have names - but a few of them have given me enough grief that I have thought of referring to them in rather uncomplimentary terms. :D

M29since14:

Buffalo Bill Cody called one of his rifles, "Lucretia Borgia".

My old BPCRS competition partner had a name for his Sharps (can't recall what now) & I always thought that was neat, but I've never had the inspiration to do the same with any of my firearms. Like to, but holding anyone of them, nothing comes to mind. I suppose if I associated a real life experience with any of them, something would occur to me.

I always refer to my guns as "Miss", for obvious reasons. Obvious if you've ever seen me shoot, anyway.

If I remember correctly, Daniel Boone named his rifle "Tick Licker." None of mine have names.

"Buffalo Bill Cody called one of his rifles, 'Lucretia Borgia'". A few weeks ago my wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with a trip out west. We saw a number of sites, but one that really impressed me was the Cody Museum. There I saw and enjoyed the exhibit on Buffalo Bill. On display was the .50-70 Trapdoor Springfield which he named "Lucretia Borgia." I understand that he used this rifle to kill a tremendous number of buffalo which were used to feed railroad work crews. I wonder what stories would be told if that rifle could speak. Sincerely. brucev.

"Betsy" belonged to Crockett...I seem to remember there was a song about it a thousand years ago when I was a kid that had a bit that went "You can travel far-and-wide with Betsy by your side." Of course, I can't remember what room I'm sitting in while I write this.

Ha! Buffalo Bill must have been something of a Christian historian! :D

I apologize for mentioning the wrong name for Daniel Boone's rifle. Of course it was Tick Licker. I claim to remember what room I am sitting in, but I won't go much farther than that.

I have not named any of mine, but my dad has a 29-2 that he has referred to as "Maggie" as long as I can remember. Of course it just short for magnum, therefore, not very creative.

Yea, well - my 66-1 is named "Deb" for a good reason, which I will not share here.

I have one that I named, it's a 1911 that was my first IPSC gun, it was pieced and patched together as I could afford it. It became known as Frankenstien.

I only name the ones that seem to need it.

My eight and three eigths inch M657 is called Long Tall Sally.
The blues lyric,
"Long Tall Sally she's so tall, she sleeps in the kitchen with her feet in the hall," came to mind when I got that particular M657.

My Ruger M77 RL in .250 Savage is The Deerslayer because that's what it does usually with one shot and an instant stop.

The M1 I bought from Woolworths back in the 1980s, one of the Blue Sky returnees from Korea, goes by Old Vet. I figure it went through two wars so earned the name.

My 10/22 has gone through several changes since I got it years ago. It now has a red, white and blue laminated stock and the name, The Patriotic Rifle.

A lot of others are just referred to as "the old .45, the Commander, the BAR etc.

None of my pistols have names but my 338 Win Mag Sako is called "thumper"
