Hi all

My local shop has a 19-3 with a price tag of a mere $250.00

Problem is the former owner cleaned it with "something"
and that something destroyed the finish. it pretty much
peeled it off. It needs to be refinished.
Also the sideplate screws show a little damage.

However, the bore is fine and seems it seems to have no mechanical issues.

I'm only interested because the serial number places the gun
to my year of birth, 1969

What would be a fair price for this?

About $250.

That's a tough one. Add the cost of a refinish to the 250.00 price tag and that is what you will have into a "shooter" grade gun. Collector value is pretty much gone.

Offer $200 and see what happens. From what you say $250 OTD would be tops in my book.
On a side note, I'd like to get a birth year gun(1959) some day but I want a nice one. I see M19-3s pretty often so if you're patient you may find a nicer one. It will cost you a little more but it's only money. LOL.

I agree with db68 on $250 value.
By the time you get it refinished, you'll have as much invested in it that you could find a really nice original one for.
That gun would make a great truck/woods guns and don't worry about the finish.

Agree on the value, and you could also use one of the "spray and bake" (sorry I don't recall the name of the product) finishes to protect the metal. You can always have the factory redo it later as long as there is not deep metal damage.

If it was me, I'd hold out for a better gun.
19s aren't that rare.
I picked up a near-mint 19-2 recently for roughly $400.

I just don't like inheriting other peoples problems.
By the way..did you check the underside of the forcing cone for cracks?
I've found that people rarely just abuse the outside of a gun.
