Reason why im asking is--im getting tired of not being able to access my yahoo and hotmail accounts--and besides--none of them have my screen name associated with them.

Anyone have any good suggestions?

I've had no problems with my yahoo and a little with Hotmail when they insisted I go through a verification process. gmail is an option but I don't use it.

I'm feed up with yahoo. First it was cutting in half attachments that I wanted to print. Now it's bouncing back messages forwarded to my Yahoo accounts thru my privately owned domain name email addresses.

There is no way to talk to them about these issues. I'm done with Yahoo for good.

For years, I ran Outlook Express, and was happy with it as an e-mail program.

Now I run my e-mail thru my local provider, Windstream. Not as user friendly as OE, but I cant run OE in my current operating system.

Gmail is useful that you can use it on pretty much whatever platform you want. There are Gmail apps for smartphones. On a computer, you can access Gmail via a browser or an email client like Outlook or Thunderbird.

Yahoo used to be the best but each time they “improve” their site it gets less and less user friendly and it is now almost impossible to use if you don‘t have a high speed internet connection. If you do Yahoo is probably still the best, but just barely.

If you do not have high speed internet connection then gmail is by far the best email service out there. It does not have some of the features of yahoo, but it is three times as fast for those with phone line modems.

I stopped using Hotmail over a decade ago so I am not to sure about their current service.

I was gonna advise you to avoid Yahoo at any and all costs. They constantly terrorize me trying to force me to change my password or requiring that I make changes in my set up.

My main complaint is that no matter what you do or what telephone number someone gives you you will never be able to talk to a living human being. The "help" button gives you a list of problems or questions but nothing that will help...EVER. Not sure any of the others are any better but Yahoo will drive you crazy.

I don't like website based email. My main account is a POP mail address provided by my ISP and accessed by Apple's mail program. Having said that, I have three different gmail accounts. I have them all pointed to my POP mail account so all my addresses can be read on my Macintosh's email program. I never actually have to go to the gmail webpage and can set up additional filters on my laptop mail proggy. EZPZ

I use Microsoft Outlook, and haven't had any reliability problems.

Outlook.com - Microsoft free personal email

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-com/compare/

(I pick up my email up with an email client, so I don't have much experience with the web view aspect of the service.)

Current email addresses there end in @outlook.com , and your preferred name may still be available.

I don't use Gmail, because they scan the contents of all emails, for advertising purposes.

I finally got used to yahoos ""improvements"" but took me quite awhile. Their newer look now--only grates my nerves. Probably done by yet another Mechanically Inclined Engineer. Ive all but given up on Hotmail. Well, there goes accounts ive had since 1997--and thousands of saved emails...

The above is another big peeve of mine with yahoo. I also get all kinds of ads and other pop-ups too. They keep trying to forceme to hange passwords and have been doing so for oer a year.I send a reply telling themthey better leave my accounts alone--or ill contack my State Senator. That threat worked with Hotmail--who had locked meout of all three accounts and never replied or offered anything to my inquiries. After I sent the Senator Contact Threat to them--al three accounts mysteriously were accessable the next day.

Compare Outlook.com to Gmail and Yahoo Mail

Isnt outlook the new version or changed versionof Hotmail?

gmail. Have 3 accounts there no problems. But of course it is Big Brother watching you.

Have one e-mail set up on Yahoo and one set up on G-mail.Really haven't had many problems with either although the g-mail seems easier for photos and attaching links. And by the way if Big Brother is watching me they gotta be really bored and we're all in a lot of trouble.

I have accounts on just about every email client out there and have to say that Outlook.com right now offers my favorite. Microsoft revamped it probably a year ago to follow the design of what they are doing with Windows 8. The new Outlook.com is what Gmail use to be like before they bloated it with internal apps and advertising. Check it out. It's free! And besides I never thought that having a @yahoo or @hotmail ever sounded professional.

I wouldn't use any of the "free accounts", because they aren't. Your emails are theirs and so is your personal information. I don't even like using the email accounts your ISP provides but have/will.

Sorry if it sounds like a tin foil cap but I pay for my own domain and I get email services there. When purchased 3-4 years at a time, it can average out to about $100 per year. If you like, you can pool together with some folks for cost but that leaves one person playing IT (typically). I do NOT leave my emails on their servers. I have them downloaded to my PC. If your ISP allows it, you could just buy a domain name and set up your own server. This is often more work than most want to do which is why I suggest buying a hosted domain. I use iPower but there are many others out there. BTW, every time the renewal comes up you have to call to negotiate your new rate, just like cable, DTV, ..........

Sorry if I didn't answer your question directly but I don't care for them "freebies" :)!!!!

Best email is relative

I've put a link to a site that explains email accounts in understandable terms.

People are recommending Outlook, that is a Microsoft software program that acts as an email manager. It's not a true email account per se. Microsoft is offering email accounts at outlook.com, my understanding is these are still Microsoft email accounts but you sign up for them thru the cloud and you use Outlook as the path/manager. Probably another different version of Hotmail.

I have gmail, yahoo and Hotmail accounts. They all have pros and cons. The thing I like is that the messages are left on the server after I look at them. With programs like Outlook the message is pulled off the server and you can't access it from another computer. However, there is a setting you can change in Outlook to not delete messages from the server when the message is first read, but you can get duplicates and some issues if you're not aware.
