What's the carry laws in Wisconsin????

My Florida permit is honored almost everywhere except the two states I go to the most. Minnesota and Wisconsin.

From what I have been reading here:

There is no concealed carry allowed in WI, but can you OPEN carry???

Does anyone do that? Open carry?

NO concealed carry, but you can open carry in WI, IIRC.
There's a recent case of a gentleman open carrying while doing yardwork. The neighbors called Police and there was a big brouhaha about it... Turns out he was questioned by the cops, told to avoid upsetting his neighbors and allowed to continue working on his yard.

This is all from memory so I may be missing a detail here and there, but it seems open carry is legal in WI. Although, you'll be hassled constantly.

Very interesting article. Thanks. I know that in the Capital, Madison or Dane County there are no handgun sales allowed in any stores. You need to cross the border to another county to buy a handgun.

I wonder if you have to be a WI resident to carry?

I lived in Milwaukee for about a year. I never saw anyone openly carrying in WI that wasn't wearing a badge. Perhaps things are different in more rural areas.

Carrying a firearm is a misdemeanor in WI, thus the cities were "don't get caught" areas. If you were caught, for whatever reason, a lot depended on the discretion of who caught you. Generally, if you were White (sorry, but that's how it worked in some places, un PC as it may be), well dressed, didn't have a record, and didn't seem to be up to no good, there would sometimes be little consequence. Otherwise, you were looking at a fine and possibly having to pick up trash on the weekends.

I was living with an ADA at the time (assistant district attorney). She told me to expect some time in the jail if I were caught.

For fun, if you Google it, you can read about the guy who tried to beat a CCW conviction by claiming that he needed his 9mm pistol for protection against the Wisconsin Werewolf aka The Beast of Bray Road.

Sure, I'll tell all my family and relatives to move.

So it seems that in WI your in trouble if you conceal or if you open carry. so basically carrying a gun is illegal???
