Not counting wind chill just straight temperature. Here in balmy Denver we tied a record low at -15 below zero this a.m. That's not even close to the coldest I've been in. Growing up in Southern Colorado in a little place called Alamosa I can remember a morning at -40 below zero. Not much moves when it's that cold. We used to plug our cars into block heaters so they would start. Glass and plastic also get real touchy when it's real cold. Doesn't take much to break. So let's hear it.......how cold you been?

This year in SC it has gone down to a balmy 20 degrees. And we've had snow that stuck for about 25 minutes.

I was raised in central wisconsin. I think in the winter of 1947-1948 they said it got down to about -52 below. I was about 6 or 7 years old and remember it well.

A little context for non Coloradans Alamosa is up in the mountains (Altitude 7500). This morning Co Springs clocked in at -8 the coldest I've ever seen it here was -20.

I grew up in Omaha and the month I left December of 1883 the high temperature for the month was -15.

I've seen it 35 below in Graf so that's probably the coldest place I've ever been and what's worse is I was on the back of an M110A2 Howitzer with no winterization kit

The coldest temperature ever record on the planet was at the Vostock Ice Station (Russian) in Antartica it was -126 F

I spent a night on a motorcycle trip in Steamboat Springs in October with a warm weather California bag.

Didn't get a whole lot of sleep.

The ride down the east side the next day was totally worth it! :D

The lowest temperature in Tennessee, -32°, was recorded on December 30, 1917 at Mountain City.

Knoxville the record low is −24 °F...

Chattanooga the record low is -10 °F.

I'm in California so the coldest is the 20s. It almost froze the top of my latte on the way home from Starbucks. There was actually ice on the windshield of my Hybrid. My hot top water got a thin layer of ice and my medicinal marijuana plants got frost bite (just kidding there!!!)!

Here at cedar city utah it is reading -9 below at the moment. It hit -14 below earlier and we are at 6,000 ft.

Why it got so cold one winter that we had to open the refrigerator to heat the house!

If it was 10 degrees colder I could have used my nipples to cut glass.

It was so cold Caj had to stick his hands in his own pockets!

Only "Ed" could stay outside long enough to write his name in the snow.

BRING IT!!!

MN memories

I've posted this before. Cold is a state of mind, and I live in MN.

I spent a winter on the North Shore of Superior way back in ~1982 or so. Went X-country skiing at midnight at -40F. Remember being able to tell the temperature by the "sound" it makes under your feet. I got to the point I was always within 2-degrees of actual when temperatures were +-10F of "zero" range. And doing naked face-down snow angels outside of a local log cabin sauna (pronounced "sow..nuh" up der' in de' 'I-urn range ;))...

I do miss the $3.00 public steam bath in Ely, MN. Used to head that way every Saturday. :)

I NOW live in South Texas... :D:D:D

Two cold places for me:

Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota back in 1993 got to at least -40 with wind chill. I remember throwing my extension cord (from the block heater) in the back of my Geo Storm, shutting the hatch, and the back window broke since the cord was frozen solid! Legs numbed up walking back into the barracks!

DMZ area, Korea in 2000 got to about -45 with wind chill. Those damn Chinese winds came over and froze even the most "sturdy" of men. Burn barrels at every turn of our training area. Not cool!

I've seen it 10 below once here in the northeast. I heat with wood and the colder temps is what I save the red oak, white oak and hickory for. If I need to bring the heat up at warp speed the black birch does that.

When ice fishing I seen it go from 3" thick to 24" thick in a week of wicked cold weather. At just 3" it's like fishing on Saran wrap the ice flexes when you walk. The water goes up and down in the hole.

At my hunting camp in vt at 3:30am using the outdoor privy you have no time to read the news paper. Everything happens so fast from the cold seat if ya know what I mean. Being up in the wilds of vt I'm as close to God as I'll ever get. It truly is heaven on earth. Vt adds new meaning to the words dark and cold.
With no power or running water I feel I'm experiencing the life before electricity and what life was like 300 years ago. I think about our armed forces in WW 2 too. I also think about how tough we could be if we had to go without nothing.

After reading these responses I feel like Koje Island, Republic of Korea, 30 miles south of Pusan, was absolutely tropical. It only got down to 9 degrees the winter I was there (2002-03). But remember--I grew up in southeast Texas, where we have four seasons--Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and Summer.

The lowest temperature I ever experienced was -3 here in Forest Park. I was 13 and had to ride my bike to school. Halfway there my hands were so cold, even with gloves, one hand came off the handlebars and I took a spill in someones front yard. That was like landing on concrete. Got to school and found out that attendance was optional because of the cold  and the day was basically one big study hall. One reason I remember that so vividly is the evening news said while the low was -3 here, the low was 47 in Juneau, Alaska. We did have 9 degree weather in Jacksonville one winter and a lot of pipes burst in the Gator Bowl. That same night there was a fire down the street from us. Two motorcycle officers had the street blocked right in front of my house so we spent the evening running coffee and hot chocolate out to them. Once the officers each took a break to run inside the house and use the bathroom. They also took that bathroom break to spend about two minutes extra to stand in front of the fireplace.;)
