What's the difference between CCI SV and Pistol Match ammo?

I bought a couple boxes of "pistol match" ammo to see if it was dramatically better than Mini mags. The verdict is still out on that one, but then I saw some standard velocity CCI which appears to be the exact same ammo.

Both are 40 grain, both are 1070 fps. One has a plastic box and costs $9.99 for 50 rounds. The other has a cardboard box and costs $4.99 for 50 rounds. Is the only difference that one box says "competition" while the other says "target"?

Sounds like when they throw "tactical" on the box to jack up the price. I'll have to shoot them side by side to see if they perform the same, but based in the specs, it sounds identical.

I don't know if this is true, but FWIW: I've been told that Pistol Match and SV (and Green Tag as well) are all made the same and tested by batch. The best batches become Pistol Match, next best Green Tag and what's left over is SV. True or not, I think you'd have to be a very good shooter indeed to benefit from any difference between them. I know I've tested all three in my Walther GSP Expert and was unable to tell any difference shooting from a rest at 50 ft.

Re-usable plastic box?

like flyfish said my understanding CCI sorts them for consistency of weight and what ever else they feel contributes to accuracy. When I want to improve on the accuracy of standard velocity cci I go to a better brand.

I have read Wolf Match Target and Wolf Match Extra are sorted the same way by accuracy lots. Two bucks more for the Match Extra per 50.

As previously stated they're all made on the same line / machines . Lots are tested for accuracy & sorted / packaged / sold according to results . If one shoots High Master or Master scores X count can mean winning or placing second . My HS 107 loves Pistol Match , Marvel Conversion & S&W 41 shoot them all pretty much the same . That said with current pricing Std Vel gets bought .
