What's up with the Shield's mag stack?

When I load my magazine, all the viewing holes are not filled. Being a single stack, is there something wrong? There have been a few jamming incidents, so I thought this may be related. Thanks for any advice.

Shield Mag

Don't understand what you are saying, did you count the rounds as you put them in ? I have both the 9 and the 40 shield with the mags that come with them plus I purchased 2 extra for each one and have no problems don't look at holes just count as I am putting rounds in, little stiff at first but they are getting easier as I keep using them. No issues on either gun at all, 1000 rds thru each gun at least.

I just got my shield a couple weeks ago and I noticed the same thing with my mags. After going to the range and loading it a few times to break it in, I was able to see the rounds through the viewing holes more clearly.

The shield mags are more like a stack and a half vs a single stack or double stack mag. So the holes do not completely correspond with the round count. I have 6 mags, 4 eight rounders, and 2 seven rounders, and they all do this.

True... If the Shield's mag were a true Single Stack, where each round sat squarely on top of another, it would hold one less round in each. If they were a true Double Stack, they'd hold more than 10.

The Single/Double 'Purists' have been arguing this on the other forums. Personally, It's simply easier for me to call them Single-Stacks, rather than Stagger-Stacks. Not really worth knit-picking.

Yes, I count while l loading every round. Looks like all's ok since some of you see the same as I on the 9mm. Stack and a half makes sense In what I am seeing. Thanks!

All my Shields are that way. The holes are in the wrong location.

Sarcasm on: It would be far too hard to actually plan ahead for the holes to be punched in the proper location, so they just put them anywhere.

They actually aren't so you can see how many rounds are in the magazine, they are for water to drain out if you submerge the gun in a swamp. /sarcasm

My other M&P's accurately show round count with the witness holes, as do my other S&W semi-autos.

I guess whoever was in charge of locating the holes for the Shield didn't quite grasp the concept. :p

This forum is sooooooooooooooo morphing into Glock Talk...

Sorry to tell you this but there is such a thing as a stupid question...and this one was stupid...

It isn't really a "single stack" in the same sense as a 1911, is it? It seems to me the only viewing hole that really lines up is the last one, when the magazine is full, but maybe I am just looking at it wrong. :)

I have the 40. All my holes look covered.

Yep mine to, what is this thread about again? Oh wait I counted my rounds and lost count after three. It's not like you have to count past 10, you have ten fingers and ten toes. you should be able to load at least four mags if you use all of your didgets and keep track. Forum is starting to get stupid. Lets use some common sense before posting, this is getting out of hand. I have to wonder about folks with firearms in their possession.

I agree 100%. Its crazy how people can come up with some of the oddest things to complain about. 90% of the time its the shooters fault. 10% of the time its just something they look to make up.

I say everyone who doesnt have problems with their Shield should all post up and make different threads. Then everyone will see more love than hate.

Ouch. :(

7 months and two likes later and already you criticize the forum?

I agree with the OP. The witness holes aren't in the correct location. No excuse for it either. It's wrong.

I just looked at my 7 round mag and you are right, the shell was barely visible. Then I turned it over and lo and behold, there it was as plain as day. The 7 hole was filled with the sight of the round. My guess is they are drilled right, it's the semi-staggering that makes it difficult to see on one side and not the other.

For reference.

My shield 9 mags that haven't been fired.

My guess is, how often do u look at these holes in a self defense situation.

I dunno about u guys, but i can tell u exactly how many rounds i have in each one of my weapons at the moment.

If i must, i'll be shooting each one until the slide or the bolt holds open. THEN, i'll worry about loading another mag. But u will not see me fire 5 shots then drop my mag to look at the holes and see how many rounds i have left. In that case, boom i'm dead.

What did people do about "problems" like this before the internet? What did we do before windowed P-Mags? Oh how did we survive?

Is the staggered mag causing malfunctions? Just look for which is the bottom most hole showing brass and the number next to it is the round count. I have yet to have witness holes line up perfectly. Glock, Sig, HK, M&P, 1911, Ruger, Beretta, you name it.

Yeah, but why not? It's so simple to make it right, why wouldn't the manufacturer do it?

I just looked at a couple guns I have out for a range trip in a few minutes.
M&P9c, 3913, 4513, 6906, and all of them are perfect. The 9c and 6906 are double stacks.

I guess it doesn't matter a lot to me, I've always wondered why they would drop the ball on something so simple though.
