I posted these pics on another thread as a response to another member's nice pawn shop find and thought it might be an interesting lounge topic. Probably been done many times, but I haven't been around the forum all that long.

I love pawn shops but my experience with them has not been all that great. They seem to ALWAYS have something I want but the prices on the tags seem so high that I don't even feel like attempting negotiations. That changed recently when I found this wonderful Model 19-4. The opening price was plenty high but it was worth fighting for. After about a 30 minute battle I was able to get $140.00 knocked off the opening price. And needless to say it is my best pawn shop purchase.

As stated it is a Model 19-4, 357 magnum with a factory nickel finish. The 6 inch barrel is pinned and the cylinder is recessed. My research in SCSW puts this gun as being made around 1977-1982. Here are a few pics.

A buddy who worked for the local PS called one day and said stop by. What had come in from their shop from another location was an SKB O/U 20 gauge, in a leather Boyt break down case. Looked pretty good, except for the leather so I took it home. Cleaned the leather up, and tested the gun. This thing was a STONE bird gun. A real keeper, and I still have it. :) $350.00 :)

I sold a guitar to a friend in need. I found it years later in a pawn shop and got it back for less than I sold it for. It's the one guitar that I regretted ever selling. :):):):):)

I have found some pretty good pawn shop finds, but the two that come to mind were a 29-2 and a 27-2,both mint in presentation box, tools, etc for just under 900 otd.

Found a pre-war heavy duty that they thought was a model 10, got it for $250

Couple months ago I snagged this Colt Trooper MkIII .22mag at a pawn shop across from a Masonic fish fry. $400 out the door.

My best pawn shop to date is this Model 4013TSW, practically new in box, with papers. If you read the semi auto section you may have seen my whiny posts about not being able to find a decent one that I could afford.

Are you serious? Heck, that's a Hall of Fame great deal! The PS proprietors that I know are way too savvy.

My Smith & Wesson K22, s/n K15xxx for $75 plus tax. It is in very good condition. The pawn shop knew that it was an older gun and didn't think it had as much value as a newer gun.

A couple that were well used, but they were great shooters and priced right: a 469 and a Security Six. I think I paid $200 for the 469 and $150 for the Security. Both are long gone, and I wish they weren't.

I found a Colt SAA Artillery at a pawn shop. It has a 4 digit serial number and appears unfired. It has a lot of original finish. I suppose the shop thought it was just a mismatched old Colt. The asking was $3795 and I got it for $1800 plus sales tax.

More recently, I got a Winchester 97 12 guage made in 1942 for $300 and a Swedish Model 96 Mauser made in 1920 for $200.

While I don't have a great story, my father-in-law scored a beautiful RCMP Centennial commemorative rifle for $300. It is still in perfect condition too! It's heavy and beautiful, with an octagonal barrel.

Does a pair of Leica 8x42 BA binoculars for $45.00 count? The employee was not familiar with that brand.......no case or straps....he said the lowest he could go was $45.00....about broke my hand getting my wallet out on that on!!!

Well....kinda long story:

I found a 2nd year K38 at a local pawn shop for about 300 dollars. The blueing was a bit worn and she was freckled girl (I always liked freckles) but tight as a drum and no marking on the recoil shield. Original stocks in darn good shape too. Kept it for a couple months and swapped it (plus a little boot) for a Python that was a little worn but a nice gun, with original grips and the box to boot! Never took a real shine to it, and had the chance to trade her straight across for a 1932 Commercial 1911 Colt. She was a bit worn too, but I swear it didn't have more than a box of ammo through it. Well, I was kinda nervous about shooting such a collector so I traded it for a BNIB 1971 29-2 6 1/2" in the presentation case and original shipping carton. So I guess the answer is a brand new 29-2 for a bit more than 400 bucks!:)
