Tough call but of my Smiths it would be my 3" 60-15 or my Model 13-2 3" RB. And then a close third would be my 386 Night Guard at 2.5 inches. All super accurate. If I could only keep one it would probably be the 13. Probably.

I like the idea of my 3" 65-3 (which just happens to have the sweetest single AND double action trigger of any of my revolvers.) But I've found it pretty heavy to carry concealed all day the few times I've tried it, and my aging joints don't much care for the recoil, even of 38 Specials. So it doesn't get out much.

So if I'm going to do some fun shooting at the range, it's going to be with the 3" 31-1. It's been reamed to take 32 H&R Mags, but it mostly gets 32 Long level loads, and I could shoot them all day. (If I had enough primers.) What an absolute delight to shoot, and remarkably accurate with the load I worked up to put a 115g bullet right at the top of the front sight at about 15 yards.

(Sorry, no pix, but there's nothing unique about either one of 'em.)

I just missed out on a 3" Chiefs Special Target and the next trip to the Indianapolis 500 gun show, derned if they didn't show me the 60-4. I really wanted a Model 60 with a 4" barrel and target sights but "settled" for the 60-4 pictured here.

It was in the winter, so I hit my local club's indoor range. There were a number of the serious NRA Bullseye shooters on hand. I just went to the line, hung a target at 50 feet and started shooting with the little gem. I could hardly believe how well it held with that 3" double underlugged barrel. After I got sighted in, my first target was in the 90's/100. The guys gathered around and were as amazed as I was, if possible.

Some guns I just label "user friendly" because it seems so easy to score well with them. The 60-4 is definitely one of the favored ones. Over the years I have hunted a lot of edible small game with mine. I often carried it in a cross draw holster while bird hunting grouse in Eastern Ohio and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I have taken many cottontails and snowshoe rabbits with that little revolver with my home cast "full charge wadcutters". Whether they are shot in the head or "through the slats" it is an instant stop and almost no edible meat damage. You just cannot ask for more in a practical rig.

About as good as it gets!

My favorite is my "split personality" 10-5 3" in 38 special with an auxiliary cylinder for moon clipped 9mm. I have shown it in other posts and I have other 3" guns (from 32 Long to 357) but you asked for my favorite.

Very fine photos. Thanks to all who have posted their favorite three incher. I have but a few and concur with Dale53; my 60-4 is a true gem in handiness, accuracy and excellence of manufacture.

My 696ND is blessed with a fine trigger, but just enough bulkier that the smile factor is a little less. Ditto 66-3 and esp 624.

I'm kinda fond of my CS1:

It's shooter grade so it gets to the range quite often.

But if 3 1/2" counts, nothing beats my pre-27s:

If you prefer J frames, my 60-10 is my "mini-686":

I've also got a Model 65 with a real slick double action and factory bobbed hammer for the K frame fans:

Some one early-on said they didn't like the barrels on 36-1 j frames.

Well, I disagree with that position.

Here is my 36-1. With it's bull barrel.

The heavy barrel makes it easier to shoot accurately IMO.
