What's Your Favorite N-Frame?

My Favorite N frame

I have a respectable accumulation of N frames. All barrel lengths, Blue, and stainless, Mountain Guns, PCs, .44, 41, .357. .38. Shooters, and safe queens, new and old, but my all-time favorite is my first. An ordinary 629 with a 6" barrel that has walked a million miles with me in the woods. Has harvested deer, boar, javalina, varmints . . . The action is as smooth as can be from the thousands of rounds put down its tube. It is just like an ole hound dog, always there, and loyal. Even though I have plenty of others that could replace it I would hate not to have it around. Still as functional as the day I saw it behind that glass counter, but now additionally loaded with lots of memorys of good times.

Best Wishes,
Tom

..well..

...since this is the 1961-1980 Board I'm going to confine my answer to that...

Mine would be the early production Model 57s. I have three 1964s, a 4" a 6" and a 6" that a very fine smith turned into a 5"...

My all time favorite of favorites is Doc44's 5" nickel...that is just a work of art....

goodness ....I scroll down the pictures in this thread and I am just amazed - so many beautiful and majestic handguns ,
makes my head swim .

As was said though - for sure beauty and a reflection of the essence of what a revolver is ;

the Models 27 and 29 take the cake

One of these, whichever gets to my hand first, I like best. M57 4" no dash, left, M27-2 5" right:

My favorite is the only N that I have at this time, my relatively plain jane 27-3. I used to own a bunch of N-frames and I've sold all of them, but I'll never sell my 27. It's a superb all-round handgun and the most accurate gun I own. Recoil, even with the hottest magnum rounds, is a non-issue with those ugly Pachmayr grips.

This one and only due to it's rarity. My one and only .44 mag, though I prefer .41 mags by a large margin. Grips are only good for light reloads which is all I feed it as they don't fit my hand and draw blood. I also want to keep it in excellent condition.

My # 2 is my 3" 657. Accurate as heck and also see's nothing but light LSWC reloads. I packed it as a CC weapon in the winter and lugged it around hiking and camping. Price is way up there so I'm back to packing my "Old Faithful" model 57 in its Bianchi SH for the outdoors. I can still hit a milk jug with it from 100 yards with a good rest and some dye in the water to brighten it up. That's shooting it sanbagged very well.

Model 657-4 41 magnum Mountain Gun. My thought on this is I think the 41 magnum is the perfect fit for the N frame, and also a great cartridge for the lighter Mountain Gun. wyatte
