Probably been done before, but I'll ask again anyway.

No time to open the safe and break out the SAW (or AT-4), no time to find the one (maybe) buried in the couch, no time for anything but the one you keep out just in case.

For me, it's a Glock 22 with night sights and a SureFire light.
Not fancy, not really my best choice for those unannounced guest, but it'll work till I can fight my way to a rifle.

I also have a Glock 22 with night sights in the headboard of the bed, in Condition Three.
Also have a M12 Winchester Riot Gun in the bedroom and an M1 Carbine.
Downstairs in the kitchen there's an S&W M10-8 loaded with +P LSWCHPs.

Have a bunch of S&W revolvers in the bedroom too, just in case of Zombie attacks.

I'm ready.

The one that I'm closest to.

Are we speaking of the middle of the night, or what? Because right now it's a 3 1/2" 1917 that's on the shelf next to my knee. In bed it's the 4" 1950 on the headboard. In my Lazyboy watching the boob tube it's the 5 1/2" 625 on the end table.

How 'bout dat? They're all 45 revolvers. That hadn't occurred to me, 'til just now.

Sig 1911 Traditional with night sights, Fenix flashlight, 870 (all on my side of the bed), S&W 669, Surefire flashlight, and a Stoeger 12gauge double (wifes side of bed), I have my HiPower on my hip right now.....and more available...

Yup, the snooze is heavy till you are awakened to the sound of bad things happening.
Well, heck, for that matter middle of the day.
You're caught with a forced entry/home invasion and just what's immediately available.
Got time to grab, not dial or search.

Rem 870 20 ga and Glock 19 with wife lying in wait with a Smith 19 loaded with Corbon DPX 38 spl. Three Surefire or Streamlight lights to choose from.

And if you come loaded for bear, wifes got two speed loaders while I have four mags for the Glock and 15 more rounds for the 870!!:p:rolleyes::eek:

Oh, and a little chihuahua just waiting to rip out your Achilles tendon. ;)

Anyone that comes down the hallway won't have a chance. I'm very confident of that.

Fair enough Charlie, I'm not asking for anyone to out themselves.
Just wondering whether the consensus is handgun or long gun.
If folks think I'm trolling or out of bounds, just pass this thread by.

Okay...the way I'm going to interpret this is that I'm sound asleep, it's the middle of the night, I hear the farm dogs barking outside, and then I hear a back window breaking. Naturally, I'm going to be pretty groggy and will have a tough time lining up my front and rear sights.

That being the case, I'll undoubtedly reach for one of these...

M&P40C with full size magazine with an XGrip extension. Sixteen rounds of JHP. Plus reload magazines. Hopefully that should be enough!

Springfield XDM .45 with night sights and flashlight. Dang thing will almost pull its own trigger

For us it would really depend on what part of the house we're in. If you are talking a bump in the night my go-to is a Hi Point 9mm carbine and my wifes is a S&W 6906. Being in other parts of the house when the incident happens may result in grabbing a 38 Special, 380, 40 S&W or 22 mag rifle. We're not really paranoid, it just kind of sounds that way.

Shotgun beside the dresser (two feet away) highlighted by low green light so I can see and grab it easily.

A M&P 22 sits in my wife's nightstand for her.

If I'm in the den, a 38 LCR which I keep handy.

A few others that I keep handy too ;)!

The "what" depends on "when" and "where"!

But, I'm pretty sure the "who" wish he'd chosen my lib neighbor's place across the street!

Whatever I'll be CCWing the next day. I live in a high crime area. House has been B&E about 5 times in the 24 years I've lived there. I don't like leaving firearms out in the house when I'm not home. I never leave home with out my CCW, so I never leave a gun out of the safe if I'm not home.
