What's your language, other than English?

Habla espanol?

I speak Spanish, both the Mexican and Castilian . I was born in the US( west of the Pecos River), where Spanish was the only language spoken in the home. When we kids started school, it became rather obvious that we needed to learn English! So Pop bought us a TV set, and said" listen to the words, and repeat them. I can remember kindergarten, and asking my friend Paul Quintana"Que dice, la señora.?" In regards to th teachers requests. In my past career I worked narcotics and was able to fool people with my Texican accent, and spoke mostly Spanglish, to th dismay of my mother! When my siblings and I converse, one speaks in Spanish while the other replies in Spanish, This is humorous to my wife who speaks only English!!!

I got pretty good at reading and writing Spanish in high school - but never got very good with the spoken language.

Languages that I have learned much better include javascript, html, basic, VBA, and some C++

I talk American and need closed captions for English TV and Movies. I speak Spanish though not what it was. It takes me a few days in Mexico to get back to 70 % comprehension. I studied Italian for a visit and did OK but found myself reverting to Spanish when it went to fast. I can order from a menu in Brazilian Portuguese and understand quite a bit but it is rude to reply in another language than the one spoken. I read some French but have a hard time with the spoken language.
I ordered some parts once for an electronic instrument. The phone went to message and the store called back with a ton of questions. It seems the part #'s were different in French and I had ordered off of the French side of the manual.

I don't understand either one, but written Spanish and Italian sure look a lot alike. It seems to me that if you understood one well you could probably get by in the other. (reading) Spoken though would no doubt be a lot different.

Talk, read and write Swedish, english and can read some easy german. Norwegian and danish is no problem as a Swede to read but hard to talk and write.

Before I spoke English, I spoke a northern dialect of Gibberish. It was before I was 2 years old. Then I spoke New York City English. Now that I've been out of NYC for 37 years, I have to protect my heritage so I have to watch reruns of Saturday Night Fever so I don't forget my native language. ***etaboutit.

ASL - American Sign Language, Yep. ... I am a Hearing Impaired person and use sign language as my primary language (while talking to my wife who is deaf and to deaf friends, but talk good ole English with my co workers and to other hearing friends/people). Lost my hearing at the age of 6 due to meningitis. I can speak well but might sound a little funny to you :D as I can not hear myself talk. I also read lips very well. Hope this does not shock you all and make you think less of the guy I am :) :)

Why would it? Both my SIL and BIL are hearing impaired and 2 of my nieces sign. I've picked up a little.

I am currently looking to expand our Nature Outreach Program (nature walks, etc) to cover the hearing impaired but I can't get people motivated.

ps: I've spoken to chimps who speak ASL and they converse better than most people.
