It started with the .44 Special Triple Lock, aka the New Century, about 1908.

Easy, it first appeared on the Triple Lock .44 special when the gun and cartridge were introduced in 1907.

I'm sure there are others with better guns and better pictures but here's the one that started it:
This 5" shipped from Springfield in 1914 to Cincinnati, OH. How it ended up in Arizona would be a great story I'll bet. Oh, and it got re-blued along the way so I could afford it. (smile)
