When considering the purchase of a gun, who's approval do you need?

As a courtesy I'll run it by my bride but the bottom line is if I want it and the funds are available, it's a done deal...

My wife loves to shoot .22's and has quite a few. Anytime a neat .22 comes into the shop I make a point of giving it to her. She has more than twice as many guns as I do and is therefore in a bad position to deny me the occasional purchase.

The only approval I need is from my checking account. The FFL plays with my debit card, DL and CWP for a few seconds and I walk out with the gun of my choice.

My wife dose not know how many I have, or when I buy another one. All of my purchases are made with my personal cash weekly allowance, and anything I put away by buying swapping and trading, no paper trail to the house, no burden on the budget.
(my world is a peaceful one)

Only Mine Needed.

We have 3 checking accounts.

Joint--which we both contribute a set amount to for house, utilities, groceries, etc.
Hers--to do with what she wants, her car payment, ins, credit cards and such.
Mine--to do with what I want,my truck payment,ins,credit cards,bullets,powder,primers,firearms.

Her work bonus is hers,my work bonus is mine.

Well, be honest guys. Look at it this way.

When I got married I told my wife I would make all the BIG decisions and she could make all the SMALL ones.

Trouble is...we ain't had a BIG one yet.

When it comes to guns I only require a YES from the person I am dealing with. Be that the Pawn Shop Owner, A local Fellow FTF, the local gun shop...or...a reply to my PM saying...You Got it Bill, send the $$ to... .

Good Luck,

I go out into the desert and spend ten days without food or water and meditate. If the spirit moves me to buy a gun then so be it.

I like the don't ask, don't tell view.

I have been married off and on for 50 years, and my wife has never understood that another gun is an 'investment', so back to the top of this post.

Thats EXACTLY how mine looks at it.
I have yet to lose money on a gun purchase... and we have sold a few to get thru lean times.
Works better than a savings account or a CD...
And a LOT more fun.

i have to say i always consider what my wife thinks about me buying a gun and i honestly try not to buy more than i need. imagine that. when i feel stressed from work or any heavy load i get a great amount of relief from a gun purchase. i like to look at them and hold them cycle them then put them up safely and back to work. they are a great investment like the billionaire warren buffet says dont buy something to keep for 10 years that you dont want to keep for 10 minutes. thats what i'm using the next time my wife says like you are ever going to sell them. good thing most of my gun buying has been done in the last 2 years. i got atleast 8 more years of bliss to keep them and let them appreciate. Never really needed permission but usually asked as a courtesy. Occasional friction because she would spend $500, three to twenty dollars at a time on her hobbies before I wanted to spend $400 in one lump sum.

Since the divorce there is no friction.

On the plus side, she bought me two guns and my father-in-law gave me a Colt 1911 Gold Cup and a Remington Model 3200, Special Trap.

This topic comes up several times a year. I've never quite understood it. I have been married for almost thirty years, with ten years of living together before that. I buy what I want with the money I earn. I also pay the mortgage, the bills and gas for the cars. I just don't understand the problem.

I don't have to ask anyone, my wife made a voluntary pre-nup before we were married in which she told me that my guns were mine before we were married therefore I could do as I pleased with them. I have had to remind her of that statement a few times over the course of 23 yrs. of being married, each time I got "the look" but I still got to do as I pleased when it came to my guns. I have sold several lately since my oldest daughter started college last year.
