John & Jennifer have been busy as of late with all the new grips I've seen around the forum. I'd just got my hands on my first set of Culina's combats a few weeks ago when I got a long awaited email from Jennifer last week asking me which set of stabilized maple burl combats I wanted! Woo-hoo! I hadn't even had my coffee yet and had to choose between gorgeous grips a or b. I made my decision and got on the horn with Jennifer. What a sweetheart too! It was like talking to an old friend. We exchanged info and in a few days they were in my mailbox.
Now I just had to do a little swapping around since I'd just put the goncalo alves combats on my 29-3. I tried the new set on a stainless gun and knew they deserved a blued gun. So now the g.a. grips reside on my 3" 629-6 (and look pretty sharp) and the maples on the 29-3.
Enough lip flappin. Here they are. Thanks for looking y'all. :D

And this is where the goncalo alves combats are going to ride (for now anyways). Excuse the dirty gun. It just got some range time recently.

I never get tired of seeing their work. Great stocks you got there, and nice work with the pictures. I just requested another set this morning in Mexican Cocobolo.

I can't wait to see them. Sounds like an interesting wood. And thanks!!

As usual for John's work, absolutely gorgeous!!!!

I've been thinking about getting John to make me a set of his 1911 stocks for my ATI 1911 myself. Nothing too fancy as it's a very inexpensive and plain gun, but would be nicer than what is on it at present. And I am curious on how John's 1911 panels come out and fit too. I thought about it for my ACW 1911, but the Ironwood stocks it came with are absolutely gorgeous, as fitting for a custom built 1911.

Thanks Mudd. I have two sets on 1911s. They turn a plain Jane Colt into a masterpiece.

Those burl grips are maybe THE most amazing grips I have ever seen! You were so right to put them on a blued gun. What a score! Congratulations

Wow, those are some nice pics that do those grips justice Vette... Both sets! Did you put the GA's on a "Talo" model or a non Talo M629-6? I sold a Talo to my brother and I too installed a lock delete. It's a great gun! That M29, Lew Horton Special though is just a 10 now with the Burls!

I've gotta do a thread on my new to me M24 Lew Horton SpeciaL...

Yup, a blued gun was definitely the ticket for those grips. Burled Maple is gorgeous and those are no exception! Great choice. If you get a chance take a look at spalted maple. It would be an excellent choice for a stainless gun in the same configuration.

Speechless! The maple burl is sublime

Vette's Berl's are quite possibly a once or twice in a lifetime kind of purchase if you're lucky... as wood this beautiful is the exception and not the rule from my experience!

I've done business with the Culina's... John really comes thru to the "T" with whatever grade of wood stock one chooses to go with. You definitely get what you pay for and then some!

Sorry!
Came in to see the grips again!

Got to see them in person, yesterday! Astounding. And kudos for the great photos above, as they are so polished that they reflect light like mad as well.
75Vette did decline to shoot an IHMSA entry with the wee chunky beauty, though.

Hahahah! Come on Vette, shooting Gainesville IHMSA with a 3" Snub .44 just screams, badazzzzzz! My first match last month was shot with this puppy... I bet if Vette shot with his Culina'd snubby he'd do a few hairs better than I did though!;)

Thanks for all the kind words folks.
Jaymoore, the way I was shooting yesterday I sure didn't need the extra struggle of a snubby barrel. I did improve on my second card so I drove home feeling better. :)
Thanks again for all the compliments.

What were you shooting yesterday, your Classic 6.5" ported barreled M629 or your 8 3/8" M629?

I look forward to being at the next Gainesville match in July with you guys. I hated to miss yesterday but we need this vacation badly with all the stress going on!
