When looking for ammo??

When Im looking for ammo for my M&P 10 should I be looking for .308 WIN or 7.62 x 51? Sorry for this question but Im new to this and trying to understand the difference between different ammo

However, I don't do steel ammo in 308/7.62 or 223/5.56. Not in my gun, but I will be happy to shoot steel ammo in your gun.
 
.308 is the hotter round and most of the match grade stuff is on .308 but it depends on what you are looking for. Lake City stuff is fairly cheap and reloadable, at least as far as 7.62 and .308 goes. PMC being the next cheapest.
 
I shoot steel cased tula and wolf all the time, no problems except for the occasional bad primer. As previously stated both will work but 308 runs a little hotter. Most of your 147-155g ammo (steel or brass cased) should get you into the 2-3" group range at 100yd. I typically get .75-1" groups with most 165-168g match ammo. I haven't found a ammo yet that it won't eat. Congrats on the rifle.
