I still use a S&W 28-2 6 inch for teaching the revolver portion the Arizona LE Firearms Instructor School. You can get great field gear (duty gear) from any of the following manufacturers: Don Hume, Tex Shoemaker and Ted Blocker.
You should really take a look at the last two. Just "google" the name and you'll find the website. They made police duty gear (and still do) when the 6 inch K, L, and N frame were the thing to have.
DANG, it's hard for that 6 inch barrel to clear the holster, even with a low riding holster like the Jordan.
I just dropped the gun raising it up before the barrel had completely cleared the holster causing the gun to topple out of my hand and hit the floor. Chipped one of my pavers. A few scratches on the muzzel tip but nothing a little cold blue didn't take care of. More irritated about the paver.
Doug, Have you considered making a belt and holster? Start with construction paper and cut design what you want. Then go to Tandy Leather and order the leather or a kit if you prefer. The tools are inexpensive. Stick to heavy leather. Ebay and gun shows have alot to offer cheap. El Paso is the place for custom stamped leather. HKS speedloaders and cases are available from many sources and excellent quality.
It would mean looking for another holster but you might try a cross draw holster where the holster is worn on the left side with the gun facing to the rear.
"Lazy", thanks for that link to TripleK on the previous page..I was going through the same search, but for a 4" M28...I was having no luck on ebay for a reasonably priced plain black duty
holster. so a plain black#196 carrylite @ $45.00 plus $8.00 shipping fixed me right up. I allready picked up a HKS large double speedloader case today locally.
I normally carry a Kimber TLE/RL II .45 at work, and a 638 in a Galco horsehide front pocket holster everywhere...but I found a 4" M28 made between 1974 and 1977 in 98% condition at the local Cabelas....it had to come home.
I like the Jordan holster. Maybe I need a separate belt to go with it that can be worn lower than my pants belt. I might very well call El Paso on that.
The only thing I don't like about the forward cant is that it's kinda awkward beinding your wrist and arm so you can grab the gun. Takes some getting used to
It sounds like you are standing up straight
Trying to draw from it... Thats not how it
Was designed to use. Remember the "FBI" crouch?
Well you bent forward at the waist, as one
Of the elements of that...making that forward cant
Angle just right
I carried one for 4 years in a Safariland swivel holster. I had a snap installed that snapped it the verticle position for times I did not want it to swivel. It was great for vehicle use. You will have to get lucky to find one now. I found one on e-bay a couple of years ago.

From what I've read in his book, Bill Jordan, who it was designed for, drew standing straight up and specifically said he didn't favor the FBI Crouch.
I generally do try do draw standing straight.
On swivel holsters, I actually just got two of those for my Official Police and M-15. I like the position they place the gun in while standing. It's right down there where your hand is. Sitting in a vehicle is great with them. But they are hard to draw from. You pull the gun and it yanks the entire holster up with the gun until it snaps away from the gun. Not a good thing
