I passed through Meeteetse (muh•teet•c) yesterday on my way to
Cody to pick up a new Chiefs Special. The tiny town is 30 miles south
of Cody, and the entry signs offer the English translation for the
Indian name. The background of the city limits sign is the Gros Ventre
(Grow Vont -- French for "big belly") Mountain Range.
Thanks to Dr. Jinks I have the invoice for my new Chiefs Special,
which is the first known 3" model stamped "MOD-36" on the frame
in the yoke cut. Clearly there are two others with lower serial
numbers on the invoice but I haven't seen any of the four others, yet
This one has about the nicest fit 'n' finish of any in the herd.
As we'd expect the assembly number is in its new location on the
bottom left side of the grip frame. Obviously the serial number on
the right stock matches the butt.
Happy guy.
