Where do you carry your firearm when carrying for self defense? Shoulder holster, IWB, OWB, ankle holster, in your pocket? Just curious is all.

J-Frame in pocket, always. In or on the waist 9mm or J-Frame also, 99% of the time.

It depends but I have largely gone to AIWB for everything. I have setups for all of my usually carried striker fired guns and also my two snubbies. I was a strong side only guy for all of my life but now, i do both but mostly AIWB.

Pocket, most convenient to grab and go. While it does not take long to put on a belt holster, and I have carried OWB before, usually it is a pain to fit into my lifestyle.

I am an educator, so I have to take off/put on my gun at least twice a day as carrying in the school (while ideal IMO) would be risking my career. In my state that usually means leaving it secure in my vehicle until the end of the work day.

I also have two very young kids, so there are times where for one reason or another I have to get up and go. Pocket carry is the only way for me to carry consistently.

For standard EDC, primary is front left pocket, reload in right rear pocket. BUG in front right pocket. Waiting for my family's order inside Taco Bell right now with such a configuration.

Jeeez here I thought you wanted to know WHERE I carried. I was all set to say everywhere except into the county courthouse and the local airport, because they have metal detectors.

For me it's OWB except for two pairs of trousers which are large enough to put the holster IWB. Pancake holster not retention strap.

Same here.
Answer: EVERYWHERE (that I legally can)...
I practice the art of POGO - Pants On Gun On... everywhere, all the time...

Most of the time in a pocket holster.

80%: OWB in a leather pancake holster.
15%: IWB typically with a leather holster with snap loops.
05%: Pocket carry a revolver without a holster. Typically only when I'm running a quick errand where I'm not getting fully geared up.

I also often carry a BUG (revolver) either in an ankle holster or the pocket in addition to my main EDC. I HATE AIWB and IWB carry in general followed by pocket carry. If I pocket carry, it's almost always only in a jacket pocket.

I carry ~90% of the time IWB. I still have a couple of pairs of pants that don't fit both me and the gun inside, so I carry OWB when wearing them.

I understand the rationale behind pocket carry, but I have too much stuff in them already to add a J frame.

Strong side IWB during working hours, then usually right front pocket til bedtime.
Weekends are strong-side OWB with whatever tickles my fancy that I plan to shoot.

Your question should have included exactly what type of handgun you are referring too. A full sized 1911 or M686 and alike can't be pocket carried, ankle carried, so it would greatly help in letting us know what gun you are talking about! Carry guns are not created equal - as far as method of practical carry goes.

Always a Sig P365. I'm not into the "carry rotation" nonsense. Usually OWB at 3:30. If the weather's nice and I'm in a t-shirt, it's IWB at 3:30.

For me it's all about simplicity and minimal variability. Same gun, in the same place. The butt of the gun is right where my hand expects to find it. Draw is the same with either of my OWB or IWB holsters. I don't want to contemplate: what gun? and where izzit? in a crisis. Same with the P365. No safety to forget to swipe off. Stroke the trigger and it goes bang.

Appendix IWB carry either a 3953 or 4053.

I'm surprised by the number for pocket carry. I've never considered pocket carry because I can't stand having things in my pockets. The first thing I do when I get home is empty my pockets.

Like every other style, the right combination would work. I also prefer empty pockets but with most of my pants, the pocket is big enough that a J frame in an Uncle Mikes isn't even noticeable.

It depends on the situation.

95% pf the time I carry IWB, sometimes in a tuckable holster, sometimes under a cover garment from tee shirt, to vest to jacket.

In the woods when hunting, hiking etc, I am far more likely to carry using a shoulder holster as it won't interfere with a hip belt on a pack. I will also sometimes use a shoulder holster with a vest (especially in the winter months) or a suit coat.

When I am flying in a nomex flight suit, I use an ankle holster. It's a close fitting one piece suit with no real option for IWB carry. An ankle holster still leaves the hand gun accessible and it doesn't interfere with seat belts and shoulder harness or a parachute harness.

I generally carry OWB at 4 o'clock. After so many years it's habit. My .32 KelTec gets carried in my front pocket, either as a BUG or as my only gun on quiet days.
