Where do you stage your pistol in vehicle?

Obviously when the vehicle is running, there is little need for a firearm. You are already sitting in one of the largest and heaviest projectiles that you own. Just take that right foot and push the accelerator to the floor

Unless this was a well planned ambush, most random perpetrators will get out of the way from a crazed driver that is in a vehicle accelerating towards them.

it is always amazing to me how few people really understand what a truly deadly weapon a vehicle is if the driver knows how to handle it. I understood this even as a 16 year old driving my first vehicle a 59 Impala. That thing was a fast moving tank. Fortunately I have never needed to use a vehicle in that manner, but I am fully aware of just how impressive a weapon any large powerful vehicle can be.

Yet almost anyone can obtain and drive one, while guns are treated like evil personified.

While deciding if/where/how to place your pistol in your vehicle consider what might happen in a collision. You could end up playing bumper cars before the gunplay either deliberately or because the other driver loses it over a collision.

One time I had two police officers search my vehicle and I had to tell them where to look for the gun so they could find it. There were also two long guns in a scabbard behind the front seats; it was hunting season and they understood, no problem.

I have a 2009 gmc truck and mine will wedge nicely between the seat cushion while in it's pocket holster.The butt is up and easy to get to,great for long rides.

H.J. I'm with you on this one. Your idea sounds great and seems like it is what will work best for you. Everyone's different and I for one don't carry in a vehicle like you're suggesting, but am giving it serious consideration because I also pocket carry and when sitting in a vehicle, it could create some unwanted problems. Once you've come up with a solution, I'd like to see a pic of what you came up with!

in both my cars i keep it in my center console. in my camry i have one in the center console and one in the hidden compartment under the radio.

I sat in my SUV yesterday with my new 9mm Shield and DeSantis Pocket Tuk holster. First off, for me, staging the pistol on the front of the drivers bucket seat a couple inches under my right leg with butt facing the passenger seat is the way to go. I can get to it immediately and it is unseen from any and all directions.

The Pocket Tuk will not work and I didn't expect it to. But I remember seeing one at Walmart that will do the job. My thinking is some industrial style Velcro. I'll attached one side of the Velcro to the holster and maybe pin the other side of the Velcro to the front of the seat. Simple and should support the pistol perfectly.

I'll send a picture when i'm done and if you guys have a better way of doing it i'm all ears.

BTW, the holster will stay in the vehicle and the pistol will NEVER be in the vehicle if I'm not...

Hey guys,

As promised "gun positioned on right-front of seat" and it works perfectly. I can get to gun immediately by moving my right leg a little.

Two other benefits is you cannot see it looking through the passenger window or the drivers window.

I went to Walmart and bought the cheapest holster I could find and a pack of Velcro. The Velcro packaged showed it holding up a good size fire extinguisher and I thought that should do it and it did.

Have you taken a look at the gum creek vehicle mount? they make an under the steering wheel mount that looks pretty solid. I want to take the same rig and adapt it to fit the center console next to my leg so I can have an easier draw.

For driving, I wear a holster shirt from 5.11 Tactical.* It is a tight spandex type undershirt with padded holster pockets on both sides "staged" in shoulder holster position. It's great for driving because your gun is always immediately available, especially if you wear a shirt with quick-open snaps. Or you could just leave a button or two open on a regular shirt. It is with you when you enter or leave the vehicle, so no re-holstering is necessary. It handles my M&P 40c just fine, and the holster is deep enough for larger guns. The opposite side holster can be used to carry mags. Worn under an ordinary sport shirt, my 40c is invisible, so I sometimes use it for EDC purposes as well. The holster shirt has to be a tight fit in order to keep the gun in place, but that has the advantage of improving both my posture and my manly physique. Its main disadvantage is that it will increase my sweat quotient on hot days. I wear it over a cotton undershirt, and that seems to help.

I lived in Florida a number of years and can't imagine wearing a tactical type of shirt. Even here in the mountains of NC, with the summer temperatures and humidity I'd find it very uncomfortable. I'm willing to go though some discomfort to conceal carry but certainly not if I didn't have to.

I've been using and testing the system I put together shown above and for me its the perfect fit. The gun is immediately available by a slight move of my right leg.

Before leaving the vehicle I lift the gun out of the holster and place it into my pocket holster (which is in the center console), I then simply step out of the car and drop it into my pocket. Simple, easy and offers two other super benefits.

1. Where I have the car holster located the gun cannot be seen by anyone looking through the drivers or passenger window.
2. Changing holsters and slipping the gun into my pocket is also unseen by anyone. Allow me to add one more...
3. The gun positioned where it is in the car is 100% concealed and comfortable if your driving 10 or 1000 miles.

I have a holster strapped to the drivers seat that places the gun vertically between my knees. I can get a firing grip without any visible movement being seen from outside the car. I rotate the holster so the grip is in my hand even with my right forearm on my thigh. All that's left is to draw!

My gun rides in a pocket holster, in the cubby hole in the dash under the radio. I put a ball cap over the top of it to meet the concealment requirement here in Texas. Get out of the car, put my ball cap on and drop the pistol in my pocket. Easy enough.

One would think the Miami shootout would have brought an end to the practice of sticking a gun under your leg while in a car.

I have used a "seat gun" while working surveillance details to provide better access than the gun on my belt. I would never consider using one in place of an on body gun after seeing way to many scenarios where people had to quickly bail out of the car.

In fact I once left my seat gun uncomfortably unsecured after bailing out of the car. This caused me to get away from the practice and start carrying an ankle gun which is very accessible while seated.
