Where have you lived?

We were living in Hobbs, NM and I got transferred to San Angelo, Texas. As part of the relocation package my company paid for, if our house didn't sell within a certain time frame, the company would buy it...the housing market was glutted at that time with homes for sale, so the company ended up buying it.

I ended up getting transferred back to Hobbs a year later. The company offered a 10% rebate if you bought a home from their inventory...our home was still in their inventory, and we liked it, so I offered them less than they had paid me for it. Since the market was so bad, they took it...and paid me 10% of the purchase price to boot!

What was really nice was that during the time that they owned it, the roof had leaked, and they put on a new roof, replace the carpets, and painted it inside.

It felt like we were coming home from a really long vacation, and we had taken all our furniture with us. At least we knew where everything went. :)

I don't know about that, but we have boxes out in the garage that have several moving stickers on them...they are looking rather tattered. I keep telling my wife that we must not need that stuff, since we haven't opened it in all this time (some of those stickers are from 20 years ago) but she insists it's valuable stuff.

I lived there in the early 90s. Went back through that area a year or so ago and it's grown. I left when the meth heads started really taking hold. Hope it's better now days.

Not really. Although much of rural/small town US is like that.
I'm all for the death penalty for anyone found manufacturing meth.

I've never lived more than 25 miles from the house I was raised in. I've had 7 different addresses, But all in Kalamazoo county. But we've traveled all directions and seen a lot of our great country.

I never had a reason to move from the greater Charleston, SC area and I've been here all my life. Is that unusual??

While I'd say "no", because I know several folks who have never really left where they grew up (some did for school and/or military but came back), it seems to be more common today where people are more mobile.

If you want to have a career in many fields, you have to move. It's one of the things that motivated me for many years.

However, I landed in Charleston in mid-2010, met the lovely lady that is now my wife, really like who I work for, and don't want to go anywhere. First time in 17 years I haven't been thinking about "where to next".

EDIT - The longer I've been out of WV, the less time I like spending there. I have several friends from different parts of life who give me grief for not wanting to move back to WV when I retire, but honestly, I have no desire to go back. Heck, I try to keep my time up there limited, as it is now, lol.
