Where is all the .22LR? Bought a Heritage "Rough Rider" .22 for myself for Christmas and now can not find any .22LR. Why the run on .22?
Strange thing is I can find .40SW at Wal-Mart for $15.00 a box...in my area that is cheap.
Cheers

Same shortages here, but I don't worry about it. Through the years, I got into the habit of shopping sales only and stock up. It won't go bad.

I noticed the same here. Went to three stores and zip. Four weeks ago i bought 1000 rounds no prob. Three weeks ago I bought 2000 rounds for $120 and they had well over 10,000 rounds there! Now, nothing and no rifles either! Sold out!

When you see it JUMP. It ain't never gonna get cheaper.

Where have you been? You haven't been listening to the news on government passing all kinds of new laws and everyone is buying up everything in sight gun related as they are afraid it will be outlawed in the future. "Panic buying".

Due to the shortages I couldn't find any CCI MiniMag 22lr ammo anywhere in my area and finally paid an ourtageous price ( $45 with shipping ) for Troy Landry 375 rounds of CCI MiniMag HP from Ammotogo. They were sold out on all 22lr ammo a few hours later. Yikes

Today I found lots of CCI 22lr ammo ( Stingers, Velociters ect ) at my local Ace Hardware store which is somewhere I never thought to even look. I am thinking now I have enough to get me through this summer for gopher hunting.

Its interesting how little people plan ahead. We've been having these ammo shortages for decades. Its time folks start to think about how to head them off, or at least make it something we who have planned can enjoy. So here's the deal. In the next 10 years we can pretty much be certain we'll have another temporary supply interruption. We can never know how long each will be. An educated guess could be to say it'll last a full year. It probably won't, but its a good planning idea.

The supply line isn't even empty. There's a steady trickle coming at us from the producers. But its got to fill the entire distribution network. Still worse, we have folks who vow this will never happen to them again, and some will actually buy everything in sight for a while, prolonging the problem.

So let me give you a clue. The time to stock up is when everything is going smoothly (not like now). When the sellers have so much they run an occasional sale. When your desires won't wipe the shelf clean. My view is that it takes years to actually build an adequate stockpile. Buying all at once makes you vulnerable to problems with the ammo you buy.

And just maybe some of you are burning up way more ammo than you can get benefit from at one sitting. I know its your ammo and you'll waste it any way you want. But then don't complain about what a lousy shot you are and how much its costing you to maintain that same level of non-proficiency.

And for a real life story of generosity.... Before Christmas and all this nonsense started, I pointed out to my sons that I don't want clothes or other junk for presents. If they needed to get me something useful, I'd like 12 ga shotgun shells. Maybe a box or two of different shot sizes, like 2, 4, 5, 6 you get the idea. So Christmas morning I received 3 boxes of 15 (didn't even know they packed them that way) of 00 Buck.

It came from my oldest son's family. His FIL also wanted some 22 ammo to shoot when they go camping. I asked if he got any and they said no, that by Christmas the stores were all out. So I went to the stockpiles and located 2 boxes of 100 WW hollowpoints. They were orphans with no other relatives. So I sent them home with them Saturday night. I hate it when someone I know is totally out of ammo.

We are all shooting ourselves in the foot. The more people panic the higher the prices go and as we all know once the prices go up they don't come down.

For 100 years everyone has said 22LR are cheep to shoot, no more!

Think it's fair to say that yes, there is certainly panic buying going on but not just because some fear it's all going to banned, but rather it will still be around, just taxed to the heavens. Getting the EPA involved in the gun debate should be the first clue they're looking to tax ammo.

Have seen posted elsewhere that feedback from munitions manufacturers at the SHOT Show in Vegas that it's going to take upwards of 2 years for them to get caught up.

Have to keep in mind as well that while there is a retail shortage of everything, there is a real shortage for LE as well. Having to curtail firearms training to preserve their supply tells you something.

You all are right on target about the shortages... I am an LEO now for over 2 decades and we are having issues getting ammo. We havent qualified in a year now... Its just ridiculous... That being said, I saw the writing on the wall last fall and I invested in quite a few .223 and .22 LRs and I am very glad I did so. Its ridiculous that even .22 LR has gone up so drastically... Hey, does anyone know of any places that sell reloaded ammo by the case and actually has some in stock???

Gone to hoarders every one.

Hey, hey, hey. I proudly consider myself a hoarder. I enjoy it, I can afford it, and I've been doing it my entire adult life. I really don't give a hoot about you guys who spend your money on video games or music. Do as you please and I can assure you I will too.

About the only thing I find offensive about the current run on ammo is I'm pretty sure it will result in higher prices moving into the future. I just can't find any sympathy for those with no ammo or who want to start building an adequate stockpile now. You had your chance and didn't take it. Now you can suffer and pay higher prices.

I really can't figure out the role of the ammo makers in all this. If they really indicated it will take 2 years to get back to normal, then they seem to be riding the breaks. I'm not sure if they're doing it to increase prices or if they don't want to increase capacity for some reason. It would be interesting to see if they've done studies that say doubling their capacity won't be viable in the future. I'd be surprised to learn they don't feel the added capacity won't be used.

Anyone got input on this?

That's about 20 cents per round!!!

The last Federal 525 value packs I bought were 4.4 cents per round.

Will the madness ever end?
