Where is all the .22LR?

Nothing against hoarding ammo

Where has all the ammo gone,
long time passin?
Where has all the ammo gone,
long time ago?
Where has all the ammo gone?
Gone to hoarders every one.
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

If you can find it and can afford it, fine. Now is a good time to hoard. The song just popped into my head.;):D

At the local store today, the guy in front of me bought 12 bricks of .22LR that they had just gotten in.

I just bought 1 box of .45 Auto.

What are foreign manufacturers doing? Ammunition is made in other countries. I remember seeing South African .22LR years ago. Why aren't importers going to other countries and buying ammunition there? Is panic buying extending outside the US? Maybe I should retire and become an ammunition importer.

I can remember "not too long ago" when folks on here we're
complaining about the Federal 525 boxes went up to 19.99
at Walleyworld. I just smiled and kept buying a box or two
every payday. Now i've got enough .22LR to last me until i
die. And the guys asking for 50-60 bucks for the same box
of ammo now won't be getting that from me.
And "No" i won't be selling any of mine for these inflated prices
either. It's like money in the bank to me. Good to barter with
in hard times and it ain't eating nothing.

I just wanted to throw out there for some reason 22lr's where extremely popular for Christmas this year. I know when I was in the big box LGS the guy behind the counter said if I wanted a 10/22 to go ahead and layaway one. They had a stack of them already on layaway with people looking to pick up closer to Christmas for the kids.

I heard that from 2 other shops also hot ticket items where 10/22 and single shot 22's this year. I wonder if we did not have a perfect storm situation for the 22 market.

The talk of new legislation + abnormally high sells of 22 rifles and pistols.

When you see it JUMP. It ain't never gonna get cheaper.

You have that right. I have some of the CCI MiniMag 100 round plastic boxes that still have the price stickers on them, 2 for $5.00! They were purchased in the mid 80s.

in austin texas academys jumped on the gouge band wagon had some 500 rd cartons of cheap 40 gr lead sub sonics but for 45.00 EACH??? i left them sittin thats just stupid

Three weekends ago I was at a big regional gun shop/distributor looking for reloading supplies. Their .22 ammo was showing a big dent, however They had Federal 510 for $18 a brick, Blazer 500's (not 525 loose pack) for $19 a brick and tons of Remington Thunderbolt and Bulk Golden Bullet for $18-$20 per 500.I have about 18 months worth of .22 stocked so I told a couple guys looking at the ammo if I had the money I'd buy several cases because this is the last stockpile of .22LR in the Commonwealth. One guy said "The price is OK, but I can always get .22 at Walmart." Another guy said " I shoot a good bit of .22 but I don't need to have a big pile, it's always easy to find.
Well, as of last Sunday that huge pile of .22 at the big gun shop is GONE. Even the bricks of $28-$40 target ammo is gone. Eley Tennex and other super expensive competition ammo is all that's left.

Chuck I have been doing the same thing for the last 5 years. Everytime I walked into Walmart for toothpaste, DVD, groceries I would walk over to the gun counter and buy a Federal Bulk Pack. Sometimes one 22 and a 9mm. Now I have enough for the ORM-D sign on my basement door LOL. But I have a range off my deck. So between my son and his Boyscout friends we go through a bulk pack every day during the summer.

I did the same thing with 9mm ammo. I started buying a box of two every couple of weeks or months, depending on finances, beginning in the months up to the 2008 elections. I have several thousand rounds of practice ammo plus a thousand each or each pistols preferred self defense ammo.

My wife thought I was nuts, but paying $7.99 a box was cheaper than I could handload the same ammo.

I checked a few Walmart's today, ammunition cases were pretty bare. Only one had any 22lr to speak of. A few 555 round Winchester boxes. I just bought over 5000 rounds of 22lr so I didn't bother to hunt someone down to buy any. Maybe I should have bought a couple boxes just because.

Did see a sign there that said limit 3 boxes per customer per day.

Nothing at stores around me in a 50mi. radius. Gun shows have had some if you're willing to pay $0.10 & up a rd.

I ordered some & overpaid the other day but did not pay $0.10 a rd. Paid $0.07 which is not much better.

Ifolks on here we're
complaining about the Federal 525 boxes went up to 19.99
at Walleyworld.

Just for clarification, Wally World sells (or used to , these days they don't have anything to sell) Federal 550 bulk packs. Everyone else in the civilized world sells 525 bulk. Apparently Ole Sam Walton negotiated a deal with Federal to give them and extra 25 rounds per box. And its a way you can tell where the seller got his ammo. We use that at the gun shows just to see where they got it.

I'm pretty certain the 333 packs were an effort to confuse those who are bad at math. I have no idea where Remington got the idea to market medium size cottage cheese tubs with 1350 or whatever they contain. It just keeps being more confused.

In another thread someone suggested the 22 mags were rimfire ammo at centerfire prices. Now we're seeing 22lr at centerfire prices.

I can tell you that when someone offers to buy my 550 cartons for more than $50 each, I'm going to be sorely tempted. At $500 per case, I could sell one or two and still have a couple of rounds left to shoot.

Only .22 left at our local WM was a lonely box of .22 short. One in a million chance but for the first time in my life I was actually looking for a box of .22 short. The clerk was as amused as I. Glad I was already stocked up on .22LR.

I don't get it. I don't stock up since I had a couple of bricks oxidize, and haven't a clue why. It was Remington ammo, now it won't chamber, and it's too much trouble to try to clean each bullet. Luckily, I am just shooting single shot .22s these days and a few boxes last me a long time.

Anybody want to throw in a few bucks and start an ammo factory?
Cheers

Count me in. And while we are at it.....let's start a new bank that caters to gun makers and ammo makers. The LEFT wing Mayors are engaging in economic terrorism by calling for a boycott of the lenders who do business with these companies.

We can call it...."First National Rifle and In Yo Face LEFT wing fools Bank of the USA." or something like that......I'm in.

Well hoard all you can, at least half of you dont have a place to shoot it up without paying and I will take payment in bullets!:D

A few bricks out of a load.
I've always kept .22 ammo on hand & especially like older bricks or boxes.
