Where should I send my 629 to have the action / trigger smoothed out?

I took my 629-1 to the range today and remembered how much I enjoyed shooting it. I bought it for use as a "house gun". I figured I could load it with 44 spl's and I would have a gun that would be ultra reliable and easy to control.

However, the trigger is heavy and "jerky" and I want to send it somewhere to have the action smoothed out and tuned. Who is would be a good person / shop to check with? If nothing else I figured I could send it back to S&W and have their people do the work but I wanted to make sure that there wasn't someone else I should be looking at.

Thank you in advance.

Dry fire it a bunch! The action will smooth out and you'll build the necessary strength in your gun hand/trigger finger. A lot of times, the "jerky - rough" feel is because your finger hasn't acquired the strength required. Check some of the "old" smith & Wesson revolvers and feel how SMOOTH they are.

I spoke with the folks at Smith & Wesson this morning and I'm going to send them the gun after the holidays for the master revolver package (or whatever they call it). I like the idea of having them do the work since A)I assume they should know the guns and their little quirks and B) if they screw something up they have the correct parts to repair it.

thanks for the info and I'll post a report when I get it back.

You'll be glad you did. I had them do the same thing to my 625JM and it is fantastic now. They do good work, at a reasonable price, and it only takes a couple of weeks.

Thinking of sending my 629 DX Classic off for the Master Revolver Package. I got a question though, will they ream my cylinder throats if requested? It's a great gun to shoot but it leads something fierce. From mild to spunky loads it always ends with lots of scrubbing. After cleaning I attempted to place a OT Lasercast 240 gr SWC to see how far it would drop. The OT bullets measure pretty consistently at .430, there was no way you could push one through without possibly popping a vein in your forehead. Which leads me to believe the throats are a little under bored. According to the cylindersmith web site I think he reams the throats out to .4305. So I am wondering if the Performance Center also does that type of work? Don't want to send it off to be tuned up only to turn around and send it off to someone else to tinker with it after the Performance Centers blesses it off. Thanks

No one does better trigger/action work than S&W. Turn around is fast also.

You should try the action job yourself. its easy to do. Grab the Miculek video off Midway or brownells and an india stone and have at it. Its a great way to learn how a revolver works

Shawn And Supermoto thanks for the responses. Don't want that warm feeling of water running down my leg if I should happen to screw something up. This is sure a nice pistol and don't want to risk it. But I appreciate your vote of confidence. Everyone have a great day.
