Well, all of us on here have that stuff all memorized.;)
OK, sorry, I had to say that. Best resource is the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson by Jim Supica and Richard Nahas. Should be at any well stocked book store for about 40 bucks.

Well, Im new as Im sure you once was and Im sure you didnt know at the time either. Sorry, I had to say that.

Thanks for the info anyway.

Gun history:

S&W has a service, they will give the history of your firearm. But I understand it is quite expensive. Here is there customer support number if you have a interest. 1-800-331-0852.

another route is to join the smith&wesson collectors association..by doing so the S&W historian can provide you with the month and year that your gun(s)shipped from the factory

Or, you could post the serial numbers here and one of us with the book will look them up for you.

Jim

Are there any plans for a new edition of that? I've got a used 910 I'd live to know the age of, but it might be post-2001.

I have a smith nickel plated with a serial number of G30214 and no model number can anyone help me figure out what I have???? Thanks It is a 38 or 32 wheel gun and have no idea what it is

I don't know if it is common practice, but I sent an email to Smith and Wesson giving the serial numbers and asking for the date of manufacture. I received an answer within 24 hours. Merv

If the gun has a triple alpha SN (AAA#### format) you can call S&W and they will tell you the ship date.
