It's a tiny crummy little "town" outside of Gainesville Fl. Absolutely nobody or nothing there. Maybe 1,000 residents.

Hasn't changed in 40 years!

BUT:

It has the reputation of the worst speed trap area in the Country. Nothing else to do I guess

Intersection of US 301 and 24. So don;t go through there or if you do stay at 20mph

Driving through there several years ago, doing two miles over the speed limit, got me a souvenir

It's in Santa Fe County, just off of I-25 between Albuquerque and Santa Fe.
Ain't much left! Was established as a coke oven operation using coal from nearby Madrid.

On the other hand, Waldo and the other speed trap, uhhh, I mean town, Lawtey, actually did something for all the folks who drive in the State of Florida.

As a result of their notorious speed trap activities, our Legislature, several years ago, passed a statute that gives us a free pass for up to 5 MPH over the speed limit (not applicable in school zones or construction sites).

That means one can always, except as noted above, keep their speed 5 MPH over the posted limit and the police cannot write a valid ticket.

There is no fine, no punishment for exceeding the speed limit by up to 5 MPH in our State.

Lawtey, Waldo & Hampton. Three jurisdictions that should have their agencies investigated, properly adjudicated and disbanded IMO. Those "police officers" could not make a pimple on a professional law enforcement officer's azz. Hampton for example has a population reported to be 477 people. The federal suggested guidelines as I recall are two officers per 1000 population yet they have SEVENTEEN "officers" and the best equipment and patrol cars all purchased with traffic fine money gleaned from a Highway 301 trap a mere 1000 feet long. All these agencies preyed upon motorists for years instead of serving & protecting. I could go on and on but just felt the need to rant.

There's a Waldo in Ohio that has a place FAMOUS for bologna sandwiches. Near Marion, Ohio. Anyone else been there?

Hi:
Waldo, Florida has been a "Speed Trap" on Hwy 301 for eons.
However I have driven on Hwy 24 and Hwy 301 and have been observant enough to observe the large speed limits sign every 1/4 mile stating the speed limit that goes from 55, to 45, to 35, to 25, to 15.
A driver that is observant will have a opportunity to slow down. Where the Police Chief is having static is having citation quotos which is unlawful. HOWEVER I once worked for a Chief (Jerk) that didn't have "Quotes" BUT would hand out punishment for "Not having expected levels of performance". The monies from traffic fines made the City Council "Over Look" his short comings, until a female officer accused him of sexual misconduct, and GOODBY Chief.

It has been reported as the most corrupt city in America. The mayor was arrested for distribution of CDS only several weeks after being elected. Click on the link to read an almost unbelievable report. Why the county Sheriff, the State Police or the FDLE didn't instigate an investigation before this all came to light is beyond me.

Having worked in the Regional State Office Building were many many agencies were housed, I saw a lot of it first hand!
